About Glenn Beck …

By Peter Wehner, Commentary

Glenn Beck went off on a rather extraordinary monologue last week about a caliphate taking over much of the world. Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard took exception to what Beck said. And now Beck has fired back.

Set aside (if you can) Beck’s childish and churlish attacks on Kristol and focus on the substance of the disagreement.

The substance of the issue in many ways is the pressure to be “Politically Correct”. Bill Kristol’s assessment of the “Arab Spring” was naive at best. Considering Kristol’s years of journalistic experience, his statements of Feb 2011 make him either a rube regarding the nature of Islamism or a biased source who was attempting to spin the modern equivalent of Castro’s revolution. In Mel Brooks’ 1968 comedy film (and later play) “The Producers”, there is a song titled “Springtime For Hitler”. Part of the lyrics are ” …Spring time for Hitler and Germany, Winter for Poland and France….” . This song could easily be rewritten to
spring time for Egypt and Syria.
Any amateur student of history or moderately observant person who has spent time in the mid east could have made a more accurate call on the “Arab Spring”. History will be less kind to Mr. Kristol’s statements and writings than Glenn Beck was.

I love Beck. Your fenevrt disdain for him only reinforces our belief that he’s on the right track.A? is a Marxist douchebag who will be seen by historians the US electorate’s greatest mistake (handily displacing the peanut farmer for that ignominious distinction).November can’t come soon enough.
