Great News: I'm About To Win the …

I just got some very good personal news.  I found out I almost certainly will win the next Nobel Peace Prize.

No, I didn’t actually get a phone call from Oslo making it official.  Not yet anyway.  But who needs a phone call.  I found out about my good fortune by turning on the television and learning that Barack Obama won this year’s Peace Prize.  So I’m figuring, if he can win it, so can I.

Look, President Obama hasn’t brought peace to the Middle East, has he?  Neither have I.  He hasn’t ended the war in Iraq.  Me neither.  Obama hasn’t brought the troops home from Afghanistan and turned that God-forsaken mess into a peace-loving paradise.  Guess who hasn’t done any of that either.  How about Darfur?  Obama and I are tied for doing nothing on that one, too.  Gitmo?  Neither of us have shut the place down.

The fact is Barack Obama has done absolutely nothing to bring peace to the world.   Or as they say in Norweigan:  “Absolutely.  Nothing.”  He got the award because five lefties on the Nobel selection committee got together and decided that they, just like America’s lame-stream media, have a slobbering love affair with the guy.  Or to put it a slightly different way:  Barack Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize because he’s not George W. Bush.

I’m guessing the clincher, if they even needed a clincher, was Rio.  Just a few days ago, the International Olympic Committee dissed President Obama by giving the 2016 Olympics to Rio instead of Chicago.  How mean was that?   Especially since the president flew all the way to Copenhagen on Air Force One to make the pitch in person for his adopted hometown.  The least they could do in nearby Oslo to make up for the slight was give the poor guy a Nobel Prize, right?

I’m going to keep this short because I have a very busy day today.  First, I have to tell all my friends and relatives that I’m about to win the Nobel Peace Prize.  Then I have to book a flight to Oslo and get a hotel room and rent a goofy-looking tuxedo so I look nice when I get the award.

When I was a little boy, my mother used to tell me that if I work hard I could be anything I want.  I guess Mom was wrong.  I always wanted to be a Nobel Peace Prize winner — and I didn’t have to work hard at all.   Thank you President Obama.

    Bernie,
It’s Kevin Walsh a fellow journalist with Comcast Sportsnet New England & NECN. We share a love of sports, and the story behind the story. I wanted to pitch you on something that sings to your writing and HBO’s Real Sports. Years ago as a young news anchor and reporter in Hawaii I covered the story of a man who found a most interesting golf ball in his basket at the driving range. It was old and discolored, probably about 30-years-old by his estimate. Instead of kicking it aside or whacking it away fast, Chris Pablo plucked it out and started to inspect it. When he turned it over he found an inspirational message stamped on the side. It was the words beat leukemia. Here’s the kicker, three weeks earlier Chris was diagnosed with leukemia. His finding that ball and searching for a life-saving bone marrow transplant ultimately led to 30-thousand people rolling up their sleeves to give a sample of blood. Of that 86 people were found to be bone marrow matches for someone else with a blood related cancer. I am one of the 86. I went to transplant for a 16-year-old boy I’d never met. I was the only match in the world. So to review I showed up at work one day, was given an assignment, and basically my life changed forever. Chris Pablo eventually found his bone marrow match. It came from a man who was a double-amputee who lost his legs in a Good Samaritan accident. This is but a fraction of the story. The rest is detailed in my book The Marrow in Me, which will be released November 6th and will absolutely give you the goosebumps. It’s all true and it all started with a golf ball. There are now dozens, if not hundreds of similar golf balls with inspiring cancer messages spread across America. If you need a news hook November just happens to be National Bone Marrow Donor Awareness Month. There’s a critical shortage of available donors, especially minorities. I can set you up with all the main players, pictures and compelling video. Interested?
    Golfingly,

    Kevin

Just read your book 100 people who are screwing up America and I didn’t no wether or not to puke, laugh or cry. I knew the liberal people in this country were screwed up but you just gave me so much more insight. You have made me realize that we as conservatives do not have a pair of balls to stand up and say F… You to the ignorant over educated liberals we live amongst. I have now realized that it is time for me to take my political stand in my town and run for office, so I can turn this once small conservative town back to reality. Thank You for publishing the greatest book I have ever read.

Fox News aka, The Jesus Channel/ GOP TV/ The Glorious Official Republican Government News Network.

While Fox News has the highest ratings, it’s also the same group of people that make up just 20% of America’s electorate… the far right-wing of the GOP.

There will always be an audience for the far right and that’s Rupert Murdock’s Fox News demographic.

Rupert keeps them frothing at the mouth with manufactured fear and GOP talking-points, phony outrage.

Fox is also a right-wing echo chamber.. notice that when “The Wall Street Journal”, “The Weekly Standard” people are on Fox News there’s never disclosure that these people are all Rupert Murdock employees.

Imagine if MSNBC or CNN did this… I don’t know how Fox News gets way with constantly recycling Rupert Murdock’s employees (sockpuppets) from his various media properties.

There’s hardly a word on the “MSM” about Murdock’s world wide (far right-wing) media empire.

Murdock has a lot of influence, example: all of his various sockpuppets, Hannity, Beck, etc, and all of Murdock’s worldwide media holdings trash global warming, President Obama and anything else right-wing Rupert Murdock dislikes.

I think that press and especially individual journalists are deathly afraid of Rupert Murdock and what he can do to them professionally.

Rupert Murdock is the new William Randolph Hearst.

Another thing, Sarah Palin, who is a favorite among the Faux News/ Right-wing crowd is getting Rupert Murdock’s wingnut welfare.

Palin’s (Rupert Murdock’s ghostwriter) book publisher is HarperCollins… a wholly owned Rupert Murdock subsidiary, you ‘betcha.

    • Tim

The CEO of GE is a personal consultant of the President and GE owns MSNBC that is 100 percent on the bandwagon with what ever program our president pushes. Doesn’t this concern you. Do you think that maybe they could be tilting anything a little if favor of the President. You make a list on Murdock and talk of his influence by using examples on the issues his commentators disagree with you. So their crime is that this disagree with you? So what! Give me an example of how Murdock has poltical influence like Immelt so that I can question it as well.

      • http://ellievellie.wordpress.com Ellie

Very entertaining! It is your opinion. The last poll shows some democrats and independents appear to watch Fox. I personally switched to FOX after The Obama cheer-leading Media distorted Hillary’s image using ugly tactics instead of logical arguments /plenty can be found/ and after salivating all over the bastard who never achieved anything in his life but spit communist propaganda speech after speech. My personal opinion.

        • Linda

          Same here Ellie….
I used to watch CNN and was a Hillary supporter. You could see the contributors on there “slobbering” all over BHO. I couldn’t stand it anymore and that’s when I made my switch to Fox. I’m glad I did and have never looked back!

    • EddieD_Boston

You’re as bright as a three watt light bulb. I saw a recent survey that showed that Fox has the most balanced mix of liberal, moderate and conservative viewers than any network. Hey Bernie, Didn’t Bill O’Reilly just get a a media award for “excellence in journalism” what do you think about that? Remember, Bill O’Reilly whose “patriotism” consists of accusing others of not being patriotic.
And how about Dr. Tiller, who was called the “baby killer” by O’Reilly over and over and eventually incited someone to kill Tiller. You think O’Reilly deserved the “excellence in journalism” award?

    • Tim

The award was from the most exclusive club in the world. The Congressional Medal of Honor society. Many people wonder if they ever made a difference in the world. This society does not have that problem. Who are you to question their good judgement.

    • EddieD_Boston

Wow, your posts pretty much proves what a simpleton you are. I guess the 4 million people who watch O’Reilly each night are stupid.

    • Jackson Hale

O’Reilly “incited someone to kill Tiller”? Are you sure? You must have inside information concerning the motivation of “someone”? Gee, maybe Tiller’s despicable, bloodstained career was all the motivation that “someone” needed.

    • http://ellievellie.wordpress.com Ellie

Dr Tiller was a baby killer. I wish the justice system took care of him. Killing the lowlife was not what O’Reilly suggested.

Reagan, the fiscally small government president almost quadrupled the national debt; Bush double it.
Bush Jr. and Reagan — the two whose supporters scream day and night about them finally having fiscally responsible government, having small governments — have been the worst in terms of saddling Americans with debts.

        • Jackson Hale

Obama = 1.8 trillion dollars and growing. Unbelievable. Terrifying. Although I can understand the temptation to harken back to better times. But we must all focus on the hear and now of the developing Obama/DNC/Leftwing catastrophe.

    • http://www.benevolentgrammarian.blogspot.com bmmg39

So…”making America less safe” = “bringing peace to the world”?

    • Jackson Hale

The “quagmire” in Iraq was solved by the policy decisions undertaken by the Bush administration and the brave men and women of the armed forces who implemented and executed those policies. The troops in Iraq will be returning under an agreement the Bush administration negotiated with the Iraqi government. To give Obama credit for these accomplishments is absurd. You must really be desperate to have to resort to claiming for Obama accomplishments that other, better persons labored, fought and died to realize. Of course, to be fair, I am willing to recognize that the terrible economy is all Obama’s. Indeed, the health care debacle is his too. Stuff may take time, as you say, but in less than a year the Obama administration has shown, horrifically, how low this country can be brought by incompetence and half-baked leftwing idealogues. Congratulations.

    • Marlson

Quagmire in Iraq!? …are you seriously still beating that drum. Did you hear Obama and Hillary gushing about the success in Iraq recently?

      Dude. Wow.

    • Leland

      Wil,

Wrong again. Obama is not closing Gitmo. He has no place to send the prisoners. Come on Wil, at least try to do some research before you post.

  • http://n/a Kathie Ampela

Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. That is the perfect example of the times we live in. Style over substance. No need to make any actual accomplishments. Obama the Concept won the Nobel Peace Prize not the Obama the President. Don’t you get it? What a wonderful message for the youth of America! Hey kids-you too can win a Nobel Peace Prize when you grow up! No need to do any work or anything. Just look good on camera, give a nice speech off a telepromter and make friends with rich and powerful people! We are sure to raise a bunch of superficial narcissists in this country now! I just read a conspiracy theory online that George Soros paid off the Norweigan Nobel Committee – I almost wish that were true.

Wanted to leave a comment on Bernie’s appearance on Bill O’Reilly last night. I think you were right on, Bernie, when you said that Rahm Emanuel had a fit of macho after watching too many hours of Fox News thereby bringing on the latest war of words with FNC. I was watching Sean Hannity the other night and he seemed to be deliberately challenging the WH, which was actually pretty exciting to watch. All of this alpha-male, testosterone induced, back-and-forth-between-the White House-and-Fox-News machismo would be very funny but consider this. In Venezuela, there is only one TV News network left that is critical of the regime. It is said that this TV news network is allowed (for now) to remain on the air in order to fool the public into thinking that there is still freedom of the press there. Hmmm-that’s sounds a little familiar…..

    • http://www.bartcop.com/ Wil Burns

Kathie, Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize should make most Americans proud, but right wingers, you and the Fox network are angry about it. How unAmerican!

      • http://n/a Kathie Ampela

I believe in freedom of speech – you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. The troop surge courteousy of George W. Bush is what ended the quagmire in Iraq. I believe Obama was against it. Closing Gitmo – and has Obama come up with a solution of what to do with 200 or so terrorists that are still there? They better not end up in my backyard. And unemployment is at 10% – worse than when Bush left office. Now what accomplishments has Mr. Obama achieved that are worthy of a Nobel Peace Price? I believe in someone deserving an award based on accomplishments – not glossy, empty rhetoric. And that is non-partisan. I feel that is VERY AMERICAN.

        • http://www.bartcop.com/ Wil Burns

The troop surge courteousy of George W. Bush is what ended the quagmire in Iraq. I believe Obama was against it.>>

      • EddieD_Boston

Sorry pal, your post makes sound like a complete fool. What did Obama do to make Americans proud? Liberalism means you feel. Conservativism means you think. Here’s hoping the tingle up your leg feels good.

Good comeback Pottsy. Actually, a liberal is a clueless fool who just doesn’t get it.

          • Jackson Hale

Actually, a liberal is just someone who hates all those who don’t subscribe to his own clapped-out, half-baked, and inane world view.

      • Jackson Hale

Only a mewling leftwing lapdog would feel pride in having 5 mewling leftwing Norwegian politicians award the Nobel Peace Prize to our vainglorious president. How can we take pride in such an empty accolade? Embarrasment, maybe. Or definitely. Only a very little person would feel pride in such a ridiculous stunt. Or accept the award under such circumstances.

  • Dan

    But seriously folks…

Here’s a better idea: Give the Nobel Peace prize to leaders of 5 permanent UN security council members, Israel, Palestine (?), North Korea, Sudan and Iran and make it contingent on remarkable progress toward peace in 6 months time. Lock those 10 folks in a villa for 90 days with cameras rolling and let the world be the judge who is up to the challenge of peace (and worthy of a leadership job).

To answer your question why ‘Journalism’ is so far left.

The answer is that in 1990 an organization called ‘The American Prospect’ formed by Robert Kuttner, Robert Reich, and Paul Starr and most importantly supported by ‘George Soros. Certainly an ample amount of time (20 years) to covert the new media as it is today, far left liberals. Check it out—-plus 89 other ‘like’ organizations Soros sponsors.

Does the following points look familiar—-none other than the mission of George Soros:
    http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=589

    • promoting the view that America is institutionally an oppressive nation
    • promoting the election of leftist political candidates throughout the United States
    • opposing virtually all post-9/11 national security measures enacted by U.S. government, particularly the Patriot Act
    • depicting American military actions as unjust, unwarranted, and immoral
    • promoting open borders, mass immigration, and a watering down of current immigration laws
    • promoting a dramatic expansion of social welfare programs funded by ever-escalating taxes
    • promoting social welfare benefits and amnesty for illegal aliens
    • defending suspected anti-American terrorists and their abetters
    • financing the recruitment and training of future activist leaders of the political Left
    • advocating America’s unilateral disarmament and/or a steep reduction in its military spending
    • opposing the death penalty in all circumstances
    • promoting socialized medicine in the United States
    • promoting the tenets of radical environmentalism, whose ultimate goal, as writer Michael Berliner has explained, is “not clean air and clean water, [but] rather … the demolition of technological/industrial civilization”
    • bringing American foreign policy under the control of the United Nations
    • promoting racial and ethnic preferences in academia and the business world alike

All seriousness aside, I’m starting to see a pattern here….

    — Jimmy Carter receiving the Nobel Peace Prize was nothing more than a big thumbing-of-the-nose to George W. Bush….

–Al Gore receiving the Nobel Peace Prize was nothing more than a big thumbing-of-the-nose to George W. Bush….

–Now Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize was nothing more than a big thumbing-of-the-nose to George W. Bush….

Maybe the Nobel Committee should present a Nobel Award to George W. Bush for his efforts in single-handedly creating so many Nobel Peace Prize winners!

The award to President Obama is obviously political. I’m having a hard time picking out the real motive behind it, however. The options are: (1) to slight George W. Bush indirectly by rewarding Obama who promises not to rock the European boat; (2) to rehabilitate Obama’s political standing after his failed attempt to land the Olympics, which weakened him politically and adversely affected his re-election chances; (3) maybe it’s just that European leaders like a weak, non-threatening American president; and/or (4) to try to influence Obama’s decision on sending more troops into Afghanistan. Or perhaps some or all of the above.

  • http://ellievellie.wordpress.com Ellie

I just took a fresh look at your bio, Mr Goldberg. You have no chance of winning Nobel Peace Prize. You have too many achievements thus you don’t qualify.

  • EddieD_Boston

Can we now conclude that the Nobel Prize is a pathetic joke?

    • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Bernie

      Yes!

  • Matt Smith

Love your stuff, Bernie. Can’t wait to read your new book. Thanks for all you do.

What Obama should have done with the Prize is to follow up his “I’m not deserving” speech with “I dedicate this Prize to all the men and women of the United States Armed forces who are struggling to keep peace around the world. They are the ones who have truly sacrificed for peace. They are the ones who deserve our accolades. They are the ones who should be honored with this Prize. I dedicate this award to them.”

Now, I know that would never come out of Obama’s mouth, but imagine the surprise of the Committee in Stockholm (or wherever) if he had said that. Obama could have made amends for all the apologizing he has done to the world on behalf of America and turned the tables on the political Nobel committee all at the same time. It would have been a great play. Republicans would have loved it and liberals wouldn’t be able to say anything about it for fear of being seen as “anti-troop”. After all, he’s their guy. I think he missed a great opportunity to honor our soldiers and state to the world that sometimes the hope of peace can only be brought about through conflict and the sacrifice of those who are committed to peace.

do not blame president obama. he has been annointed by the worldwide liberal power’s, which includes our liberal media, with super powers. the kind of powers that enable him to save the world and make all of our lives worth living, even though he has not accomplished enough to win the n. prize, or to be president of the united states. i am a moderate, and it bogles my mind that ronald reagan did not win it……but wait! didn’t he end the cold war? yes he did. president obama admitted that he did not deserve it, and i applaud him for that. in a nutshell, i am fed up with left wing favoritism. i am used to it when it comes to the majority of media outlets here in the u.s., but for the n.p.p. commitee to do this? what a sad day!

The call informing you of your win would likely come from Stockholm, and not from Oslo. Oslo is the Norwegian capital, Stockholm is the swedish capital. ‘cept for that though, enjoy your prize by all means.

    • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Bernie

      JoHan:

you might be right but the committee that gave Obama the Prize was located in Oslo. And they actually give out the awards in Oslo. I know Stockholm is involved in some way, but not sure how. Any help is appreciated.

      • Dan

The Stockholm folks award the other Nobels (and the “added much later faux” Commemorative Nobel in economics), but the Norway folks award the Peace Prize. No one seems to know for sure why Alfred wanted it that way.

To my knowledge the two committees are not involved with each other in any way.

Obama won the Nobel Prize for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen internatioal diplomacy between people.” So I guess dissing the reverant Dalai Lama and cowtowing on one knee to communist China is an extraordinary example of diplomatic peace. Wow. Makes ones head spin!

      Good point!

  • notbornyesterday

It takes less and less to get one nowadays, must be dumbing down the prize, that’s ok , YOU ALL GET ONE! He may do good, he may bring peace, he may do these things but has not DONE them. How absurd

    • kevin s.

kind of like his winning the election. very unqualified to be president. the media put him in. as for dumbing down the award…..this countries educational system has been dumbed down drastically, so that no one’s feelings get hurt. why not dumb down a once prestigious prize. i agree….this is very absurd!

I’m pleased to announce I’ve been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for a book I’m thinking about writing. The outline is still rough and the characters aren’t developed, but I’m sure it will be great if I can ever take the time to write it and find a publisher. Obviously, the Nobel committee agrees.

JimmyJohn … very funny … good one … Bernie

Hey Bernie, How does it feel, being O’Reilly’s sock puppy? It’s embarrassing watching you people preening Bill’s ego!

        • http://n/a Kathie Ampela

Why do you have to resort to name calling? I don’t think that’s very nice. That’s why the state of discourse is what it is today. You can state your opinion firmly but respectfully, without hurting anyone’s feelings. We will all revert back to cavemen without civil discourse.

I’m truly disappointed that someone who truly deserved the Nobel Peace Prize did not get it. If Obama is the best they can do, then I feel sorry (moreso than I did before) for the world. We are living in dangerous times and it is apparent to me that all commone sense has left many people. I know there are great human beings from all over the world still out there…from every nation and every ethnic background. Bravo to you all! Keep up your good work…never quit! To you in America, let not your heart be troubled…stay vigilant and pray to our Lord God. He alone can take us where we need to go to be the people we should be. Our founding fathers knew this and were blessed. Take back our nation for our children and be responsible. Be informed.

I truly thought it was April Fools Day.

Mediocrity is being rewarded, that sounds about right in today’s world.

  • PJ

Oh, I forgot one: Al Gore!! Good grief!!

  • PJ

Love your tongue-in-cheek article, Bernie. But, tell me this, why would you want to be the the company of other Nobel Peace Prize winners like Jimmy Carter and Barack Hussein Obama? What a bunch of weirdos!!

    • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Bernie

      pj

it’s not whether or not i WANT to be in their company … i can’t help it if the Nobel clowns want to give me the Peace Prize. I will try to remain humble. Bernie

      • PJ

Well…I’m flying high! My favorite columnist & Fox News contributor & Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2010, actually sent me a message! I’m honored, oh humble one! You’re truly a class act, Mr. Goldberg.

        • kevin s.

he really is. and if you have not read, “a slobbering love affair”, READ IT.

          • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Bernie

thanks to both you guys. i’m convinced some of the smartest and most decent people post their thoughts on this site — unlike some others that are sewers. you’re the class acts.

When I woke this morning to this news I have to admit I was surprised. So I had to look online to see why he won it. I guess my initial action in itself says a lot. I bet even supporters had to quickly seek out how and why so they can defend the results.

  • http://ascream.blogtownhall.com/ Old Marine

Mr. Goldberg, maybe if you travelled the world apologizing for the America and telling the world how wrong and arrogant America is you may win the nobel peace prize next year. You might also consider writing articles condemning America, you might possibly win the award for best writer. Frankly, I feel it is a consolation prize, booby prize, for making a fool out of Obama over the Olympics. By the way, I know Nobel should be capitalized, but that would give it some dignity, and it ddoesn’t deserve it, any more.

  • dockratdos

The Nobel Peace Prize is nothing more than a joke, has been for years. Presenting it to Obama is just another laughable moment.

    • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Bernie

i thought it was a joke, too. seriously. i thought they were fooling around when i turned on the tv. man, you can’t make this stuff up. bernie

      • Jackson Hale

Initially,I thought the Obama Nobel was an Onion News parody. Like the Onion News report that Obama was going to negotiate with the California wildfires for a temporary halt to burning.

  • Ines

The Nobel Prize has been awarded to a teleprompter! Unbelievable!

    • kevin s.

very funny, and very true as well.

  • http://ellievellie.wordpress.com Ellie

I thought Obama won the Nobel Appease Prize :)
    Dear Mr. Goldberg,
Thank you for so brilliantly addressing the issue!
    I have only two explanations
    1. The world is trying to pressure Obama – in which case I am terrified, because they may succeed.
    2. It is a kind of Mandela Nobel Peace Prize – in which case they should take a look of South Africa’s ruined post Mandela economy. In the news today – Canada and Australia are adding jobs. Ops! Looks like we are bleeding capital and brains the same way South Africa did after Mandela.
