How would the Hollywood liberals who signed the Free Polanski Now petition feel if a man in his 40s gave their 13-year old daughter drugs and alcohol then sodomized her?
Would they sign a Free Him Now petition if the pervert wasn’t a liberal like Roman Polanski – but a conservative like Rush Limbaugh?
If a conservative Republican said we need a law to require all Americans to take personal responsibility and buy health insurance, would the Right be against it – or are conservatives only against mandatory insurance when liberals call for it?
Would conservatives have supported going to war in Iraq if a liberal Democrat like Barack Obama had gotten us into that war?
Would conservatives support years and years of national building in Iraq?
Why are many liberals against sending more troops to Afghanistan when for years they said Afghanistan was the “good war”?
Were liberals being deceitful when they said Afghanistan was the necessary war, the war that required all our military attention? Were they merely using Afghanistan as an excuse to get us out of Iraq?
Would liberals have said the Van Jones story was no big deal if a conservative had put a right-wing radical in his administration?
How would conservatives on radio and TV – who said virtually nothing negative about the people who disrupted town hall meetings — feel if liberals disrupted town hall meetings during a Republican presidency?
What would conservatives say if a liberal talk show host tried to portray demonstrators at a left-wing anti-war rally as a “cross section of America” – just as commentators on the Right portrayed “Tea Party” demonstrators as a “cross section of America?
Liberals are rightly enraged when conservatives compare President Obama to Hitler. They worry about incivility in America. Were they outraged when liberals compared President Bush to Hitler? Did they think that was uncivil? Then why didn’t they say so?
Just wondering.
Bernie, Boy George and Dick just had 500,000 people killed for no reason. Hello.
Sadly true and dead on accurate. Not a very good state we are in.
To the point of the hypocrisy, it’s obviously true. It seems that today more than ever, people think nothing of excusing their own for the very same things that they attack their perceived enemies for. Terri’s comparison to the Catholic priest scandals really hit the nail on the head.
But sadly, this issue goes beyond the abandonment of objectivity, and suggests a crisis of humanity.
For example, it seems like the deaths of people in places like Iraq or Afghanistan are just arguing points to those who insist we should pull out. These same folks don’t even care what happens to those people after we’re gone. It’s ok if they suffer and die, because it’s W’s fault. Out of sight, out of mind.
But I’m afraid that where the rape of a minor is concerned, we’re dealing with something even deeper. I don’t think that Whoopi’s comments are strictly political. (although I don’t deny that she might attack others for the same thing.) She did suggest that she believes a 13 year old can give consent, and even more disturbingly, that in this case, the 13 year old essentially gave it. At least, that’s the way it seemed to me.
We got problems, people.
Loaded Question – a question that carries an assumption, and is worded in such a way so that the respondent who answers the question directly admits to accepting that assumption.
But I’m game.
1. Outraged.
2. No.
3.Conservatives are against government intrusion no matter who calls for it.
4.Probably not.
5.Beats me.
6.Simply because they are liberal.
7. Yes and Yes.
8. Depends on who they are talking to.
9. They’d be screaming.
10.They’d cry foul!
11.No. No. Hatfields and McCoys.
I like the bigger point here is that can any of us take off our lable and just look at an issue anymore? I hope more people can.
Tim you are right, no pun intended. The media and editorialist have hijacked the real news. Now all we get are people saying things that don’t make sense to your foot, and they can fill a stadium with people that are scared of some perceived bugaboo that has no basis other than they were mccarthyed into acting on their own short comings. Excuse me, I must leave now, I see the mushroom clouds a formin’
With the power comes a lot of sex – it seems to be true in all societies – from a Shaikh having hundreds of sons – to a President being serviced on the job – to a Dictator getting “gifts” from his enablers – to a teacher messing around with a kid.
It is the freedom of speech that can put a check on those perverts. Media has the ability to put a check on people in power – only if it is a free media.
Clinton, Berluskoni, Polanski – they were hold accountable by the media /at least from part of the media/ – it does not happen in Russia or Middle East or other shady places in the world.
It is OK to have liberal media. If suddenly we only have conservative media – it would have meant we have a freedom of speech problem.
Whoopi is free to say – it is not a rape rape – thankfully you are free to say a rape is a rape and put a check on her crazy idea.
People are smart enough to decide what idea serves them best. If people think they like the liberals – they totally deserve to be ruled by one
We – the conservatives should stop whining and start working on how to communicate our ideas better. Meanwhile we have to make sure we put a check on the liberal spin
Good questions. Being of a mature age I remember when the distance between a conservative and republican was a short walk. Now their diifferences appear to be the distance between Manhattan and Malibu. Somewhere we lost the will to support what is right and replaced it with bias party support. Perhaps this is a direct result of a media that lost it’s integrity.
I like your observations.
Bernie you are right on the money as usual. The hypocrisy and arrogance of the left is staggering! What if it was a Catholic priest instead of Roman Polanski who drugged and raped a 13 year old girl – do you think the same Hollywood liberals would be signing a petition to drop the charges? The pro-abortion left says we can’t tell a woman what she can and can’t do with her body, but they want the govenment to be able tell us what health insurance we can or cannot have – and if we don’t comply they want to fine us or throw us in jail! It’s unconstitutional what this current administration is trying to do – we need to take legal action as a nation.
