Liberal, Just Another Word for Stupid

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked myself how it is that so many of my fellow Americans can actually go out and vote for people as ignorant as Patty Murray, Barbara Boxer and Hank Johnson. Rep. Johnson, in case he’s slipped your mind, is the Democrat representing Georgia’s 4th congressional district, whose claim to fame is that during a House Armed Services Committee hearing, he asked Admiral Robert Willard if he shared the congressman’s concern that adding 8,000 servicemen and their families to the 175,000 civilians on the island could cause Guam to tip over and capsize.

The truth is, even if you ignore their politics, it would be hard to imagine any group of people in which this trio would not stand out by reason of their ignorance.

But just as often, I’ve found myself wondering why Fox keeps offering up the likes of Juan Williams, Leslie Marshall, Geraldo Rivera, Alan Colmes, Marc Lamont Hill and Bob Beckel. I sit at home listening to these donkeys braying the same predictable talking points to each and every question, and I find myself dismissing Fox’s claims to being fair and balanced. If that’s their intention, I say to myself, why is it they never invite some intelligent people on to present the liberal side of issues?

Then it struck me. There is no intelligent argument that can be made for liberalism. All any of them can do is parrot the same insipid sound bites dreamed up by the likes of Barack Obama, James Carville, David Axelrod, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and regurgitated ad nauseam by Jay Carney.

There is a very good reason why there’s nobody on the Left who is comparable to Charles Krauthammer, Mark Levin, Thomas Sowell, Brit Hume, Ann Coulter, Dennis Prager, Walter Williams, Mark Steyn, Steve Hayes, Bernie Goldberg, Harry Stein, Michael Medved, Mark Alexander, Bret Baier, Michelle Malkin and Lou Dobbs. The reason is that liberals never think for themselves. Aside from plotting how to game the system in order to steal elections, none of them ever has an original thought. Even questioning Barack Obama is regarded as an act of heresy.

What’s more, I can prove it. Every liberal in public life has called for abolishing the Second Amendment. Now why is that? I happen to know a number of liberals who own guns. What’s more, rich liberals who don’t own guns have security people on their payroll who carry them. Even anti-gun advocate Sen. Dianne Feinstein was once found to be packing a heater in her purse, and yet, with a single voice, liberals squeal for the abolition of all firearms. The only reason for all this hypocrisy is because some influential liberal along the way decided it was a divisive issue which could be used as a wedge between them and the rest of us.

How else could a Chicago punk at a San Francisco fundraiser be so certain that he would derive laughter, applause and huge campaign donations, from a bunch of limp-wristed fat cats by demeaning his betters as “those who cling to their guns and their religion”? For good measure, he was well-guarded at the event by a squad of Secret Service agents armed to the teeth.

If you still question my statement that liberalism is synonymous with stupidity, imagine a TV network whose intellectual heavyweights are Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton, or a now defunct radio network that headlined Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, whose combined IQ would have to climb a stepladder and then stand on its tippy toes in order to reach triple digits.

The truth of the matter is that if liberals were as smart as they claim, they’d be conservatives.

How about adding Larry Elder to the brilliant conservative minds.

Robots! They all spew the same conservative garbage, none have a different view of anything!

    • Joe

As a liberal, I suppose you’re an avid listener and patron of conservative commentators, too.

  • BurtPrelutsky

Terry: You’re right.  I would also include Michelle Malkin and Dana Perino for our team and Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee and Barney Frank for their’s.

Wally: If you’re talking to me, rest assured I have no intention of stopping.

Great work but don’t stop because I love it.

  • Terry Walbert

How come no one has mentioned my favorite commentator, Anne Coulter.  She’s witty, funny in an insulting way, and usually right, plus she’s nice to look at.

Speaking of which, has anyone noticed that the women on the right are much more attractive than those on the left.  Compare Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Anne Coulter, and Kay Bailey Hutchenson (when she was in the Senate) to Barabara Boxer, Louise Slaughter, Maxine Waters, and of course, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

OK, Diane Feinstein is very presentable, but the exception proves the rule.

  • BurtPrelutsky

Brhurdle: I usually lack the patience to watch The Five.  Bt I do recommend Bret Baier’s Special Report.  When the panel consists of Krauthammer and Steve Hayes, Juan Williams would be well-advised to stay home and save himself the embarrassment of looking and sounding even stupider than he does on O’Reilly’s Factor.

Let me reinforce your feelings regarding the liberal commentators on Fox News – especially Colmes and Beckel. What is presented as discourse is nothing more than recitation of political spin without any logic – it is sometimes completely illogical. I’ve often wondered why they bother since it’s so apparent there is no substance to these “balanced” discussions. The Five is enough to make you nauseous although I have begun to detect that Dana Perino’s patience with Bob Beckel’s spin is being mightly tested. Maybe it’s impossible to have an honest discussion although I find that Krauthammer is able to adhere to logical arguments. It’s as if the whole world has sunk to the level of disingenious political rhetoric used by President Obama.

  • BurtPrelutsky

cma: Forget Ryan and Krauthammer.  The comments of my dog Duke are always light years ahead of a Barbara Boxer.

    genann59: Thank you.

    Burt

  • genann59

You hit it on the nail with the last sentence. The rest is good and explains the last sentence but you could have gotten by with conservatives by just writing the last sentence. We know it.

  • cmacrider

Burt:  I suggest the only way to understand “progressives” is to recognize that for them “truth” has no correspondence to any external objective realities … “truth” for them is simply a subjective idea of which they have among themselves developed a consensus upon …. it then becomes their “accepted truth.”  In sharp contrast, people like Krauthammer understands truth to exist when there is a high degree of CORRESPONDENCE between his perception and the external reality.   Hence C. Krauthammer and other conservatives have to do some independent thinking to decide for themselves whether an opinion corresponds to an external reality.  As a result the comments of a  Paul Ryan or a C. Krauthammer are always light years ahead of a Barbara Boxer.

Jeff: Clearly, liberals have no historical knowledge.  Or any other kind, as borne out by esoterick’s childish rants.

esoterick: I am such a smart person that, along with just about everyone else who hangs out around here,  I know that you should have written “Since you’re such a smart person…” That’s just embarrassing.   I guess you got lost on your way to the Daily Kos.  You must have turned right when you meant to turn far left.

What can I say.  You have pretty much hit it on the head.  The examples are excellent yet frightening.  How, with ANY knowledge of history, can an educated person be in favor of a larger more powerful federal government?  Our framers obviously were not.  The examples of abuse of power across the world point to a profound need for smaller less restrictive government.  Its really quite simple.

In My Opinion:  Since your such a smart person maybe you can give some kind of concrete examples on these statements:  ”…liberals never think for themselves.” “Aside from plotting how to game the system in order to steal elections…” No, that’s conservatives, if you haven’t been paying attention for the last 10 years. “Every liberal in public life has called for abolishing the Second Amendment…” Really? Who? When? Where?  You don’t need to bother, because you have no answer to this. You’re living in a fantasy land.  I have never had a conservative out-debate me on anything.  Liberals are not stupid.  But somebody is.  And some people have a hard time telling difference between themselves and other people.  I find conservatives are suffering from many psychological problems which we can all read about, and conservatism is not an ideology at all.

    • Glen

Eso, funny you didn’t ask for examples of liberals plotting to steal elections?…. really  funny that!

      • Larry Linn

No need to. Jeb Bush and the Repugnicans stole the Presidential elections once before.

        • Jeffreydan

“Repugnicans” stole nothing. According to state election laws, the democrites’ efforts were illegal. According to the U.S. Constitution, George W. Bush was duly elected to begin with.

It’s simply a fact that Al Gore tried to steal the 2001 election, but by all means stay as ignorant and disingenuous as you please.

          • Roxiebell

Al Gore was a “tool” for the Damned-ocrats and the DNC shyster lawyers, and that was the beginning of the “give a damn”  for the country motto of Dems and liberals at the alter of their obsession for “control” and “power” over us.

  • BurtPrelutsky

buttass: If you mean that they haven’t done so in exactly those words, no doubt you’re right.  After all, it takes a lot of time and effort to repeal an Amendment.  But can you name an elected liberal who has not joined in calling for outlawing guns in the hands of law-abiding civilians?   This is not a good place for you to try to play games.  You will always lose.  You are well-named.

Michael: Juan Williams is not as personally repulsive as some of the other knee-jerk libs at Fox, although I found it pretty disgusting when he played the martyr for weeks on end after he was dumped by NPR.  Within half an hour after the dumping, he had signed a $2 million deal with Fox and a huge book deal, but he kept playing the victim, complete with quivering lip and teary eyes, for a very long time.

Bruce: Your cousin is the classic definition of some conservatives, a liberal who’s been mugged.

Roxiebell: I’m glad you found me, but what is ICAM?

Ron Kean:  I did not forget Victor Hansen.  On three separate occasions, I have written to him requesting an interview for one of my books and three times he denied me the common courtesy of a reply.  So, one, I do not regard him as the #1 voice of conservative thought because he lacks a sense of humor, which makes his writing a bit of a slog; and, two, I think that a person who doesn’t employ conservative values in his own personal life gives the lie to his philosophy.

    Regards, Burt

    • Roxiebell

      ICAM = I Couldn’t Agree More

  • buttass

I can name no elected liberals who have called for repealing the 2nd amendment.

  • Michael

I disagree with Juan Williams a lot, but I think he is a decent person who means well.  Geraldo Rivera, on the other hand, has made a career out of grandstanding and pushing sleaze, and I cannot for the life of me understand why Fox would taint their credibility by having him on their network on a regular basis, and inviting him to sit in on Fox & Friends and other shows.  I’ve often wondered if the other Fox people are just pretending to like him, or if they are too naive to know they’re being duped by a sleazebag.

  • Roxiebell

Once again Burt I have to thank my lucky stars to have discovered your columns and I’ve asked the same questions on a daily basis myself, its astounding how these liberal morons are treated like they actually have a brain with any reasonable thought and the ability of rational debate which its clear they don’t.

Thanks for a great article and of course ICAM with you.

  • Bruce A.

One of my cousins was a die hard liberal.  For years she told my family how nuts we were for our views.  Then she was muggged.  After this, she came to her senses.

    • Larry Linn

My conservative friend lost his life savings sue to the Wall Street crooks, given a free reign under conservative Bush.

      • Jeffreydan

President Bush was not fiscally conservative. The most conservative thing he did was the tax cut early in his presidency, but it fit the moderate definition better considering cuts under JFK and Reagan.

There is nothing “Wall Street crooks” did between 2001 & 2008 that they cannot do right now, so neither “conservative” nor “liberal” fits here. Aside: in case you weren’t aware, candidate Obama got more Wall Street money than the Republicans did.

No conservative spends money the way Bush did. Were you not paying attention during the latter part of his administration? Or is it that you think pinning stuff on him just magically makes Obama a good leader?

      • Bruce A.

Still blaming Bush?  Mental patients, losers & marginal people blame others for their failures & problems.  The rest of us take responsibility for ourselves, our families &  our own actions.
I also lost a chunk in the meltdown, my mistake for investing in this junk.

    • Terry Walbert

”For years she told my family how nuts we were for our views.  Then she was muggged.  After this, she came to her senses.”

That’s the definition of a neo- conservative.  The problem with many liberals is that they may act conservative in their private lives but espouse liberal views for the masses — like Diane Feinstein packing a heater while calling for gun control.

  • Ron Kean

You forgot the #1 voice of conservative thought Victor Davis Hanson.

    • Glen

      ?? Who is that??

      • Kirk

        victorhanson.com
well worth the read, ranks right up there with Sowell in my opinion.

  • Jeffreydan

If there’s one thing you can take to the bank, it’s that prominent & influential liberals know fully well nothing improves or benefits our lives like conservatism. They just won’t admit that since they then couldn’t convince the gullible masses to give them the power they crave.

If their policies are so great, then why do liberals skimp on taxes, use more fossil fuel and electricity than most people, and exempt themselves from Obamacare? How great could a proposed law be if it takes lying, covering up, bullying, and bribery to pass it? Why would God’s gift to public office need to embarrass and smear his opponents in order to get elected?

  • gdaylan

Marc Lamont Hill, Geraldo Rivera,  Leslie Marshall, Alan Colmes and  Juan Williams appear on the O’Reilley show in order to make Bill look intelligent.  It is not easy but they manage to get it done.  Beckel cohosts The Five in order to do the same for Eric Bolling.  Fox is doing a good job here by exposing these idiots.
