Obama Compliments a Woman; Feminists Offended

O and Harris

Perhaps you’ve heard about the incredibly insensitive remark President Obama made the other day – the one that not only showed how indecent men can be, including even a progressive man like the president, but how words can be used as weapons to inflict great pain.

I’m referring to the ugly comment the president made about women.  The comment he had to apologize for.  Yes that comment: He said the attorney general of California – one Kamala Harris – was attractive.

Oh, the humanity!!!

The president was at his millionth fundraiser outside San Francisco when he said Ms. Harris was “the best-looking attorney general in the country.”  What, in God’s name, was this brute thinking?

Never mind that it’s true, that she is the best-looking attorney general in the country, or that he had already said that Ms. Harris was “brilliant” and that “she is dedicated and she is tough” before saying she was also attractive. Never mind that he did not say, “The girl is smokin’” or “That babe is hot.”

What he did say was enough – enough, that is, to get liberal feminist panties in a knot.

MikaMika Brzezinski, for one, on MSNBC was not pleased.  On Morning Joe she said, “It just divides women and it just divides people up to separate them by looks and probably was a little ham-fisted. I just think the whole thing, the whole dynamic about women and their looks puts women under a lot of stress that they don’t need.”

This, we should note, is coming from a woman who is a television host precisely because of her looks.  It certainly isn’t because of her depth.  And if you don’t believe me, just listen to her for two seconds. (That’s Mika in the nearby picture showing not only leg but also how concerned she is about separating women by looks.)

Columnist Robin Abcarian wrote on the Web site of The Los Angeles Times that the comment was “more wolfish than sexist,” and “may be a little problem he needs to work on.”

Great idea!  Maybe he could “work on” his “little problem” in between trying to finally get the economy up and running after more than 4 years in office and dealing with the North Korean whack job who keeps promising to blow us up with one of his nuclear weapons.

Joan Walsh, a left-wing member of the chattering class who if she wore pants would be Chris Mathews wrote on Salon that “my stomach turned over” when she heard about the comment. “Those of us who’ve fought to make sure that women are seen as more than ornamental — and that includes the president — should know better than to rely on flattering the looks of someone as formidable as Harris,” she said.

None of this particularly interests me.  I, like many of you, have come to understand how shallow liberal feminists can be; how they derive power by either being hurt or by faking it; how they love to wallow in their perceived victimhood.  They see themselves as strong women.  In fact, they’re just the opposite, offended by every little slight, real or imagined.  If a guy behaved that way he’d be called a sissy.

What does interest me is the president’s apology, which was made for cowardly political reasons.  Liberal Democrats count on the support of liberal women.  So if even a few liberal women are upset, instead of telling them to Man Up – (wouldn’t that be great?) – you apologize and to hell with your manhood.

Take a good look at the New Man, who really isn’t that new anymore.  He came out of the feminist movement, a movement that did a lot of good not just for women and girls, but for all of us.  But it also turned more than a few men, who wanted to show just how down with the cause they were, into pandering wimps.

Memo to POTUS: Here’s what a “real man” – the kind you’ll find on Mad Men – would have said when the feminists started in with their predictable whining, over a compliment no less:  “SHUT. UP.”

And before any of those fragile women breaks down in tears, he might have added this:  “Kamala Harris isn’t complaining.  And you know why?  Because every woman in America – and 99 percent of the men – like it when someone says, ‘Hey, you’re attractive.’  That’s how we humans are wired.  There’s nothing wrong with complimenting a woman on her good looks, even if she is an attorney general or has any other job outside the house.”

Instead, the president calls Ms. Harris and apologizes — for paying her a compliment.  Frankly, I worry more about the fate of the nation because of New Men like that than I worry about what the aforementioned whack job in North Korea might do to us.

As for Mika and the other gals: If they don’t like compliments on their looks, fine, we’ll never say you look nice ever again.  Happy? Now do us one small favor:  Shut. Up.

The most radical feminists are offended by the very idea that men are attracted to attractive women. When “reformed” they will be attracted to all women, equally, irrespective of their physical appearance … based on how sensitive they are to feminist issues, presumably. Good luck with that one. :/

  • Vasko Bozinovski

Bernard Goldberg is the new GOD. Amen! Knock down these knotted pro-feminists!

As Tyler Durden said in Fight Club: “We’re a generation of men raised by women.”

  • Paul Courtney

Bernie: Such rank insensitivity on your part! To suggest Mika is good looking shows your just another good ole’ boy gender bigot. The publicity shot is proof- observe Mika’s disapproving pout as Joe has undoubtedly just made another sexist remark (see his smile?). Ms. Brzzzzzinsky is the consummate professional journalist, equal to the greats-Mitzi Gaynor, Betty Grable, Suze Kolber….

Spot on Mr. Goldberg. Great column.

    “Where’s da white women?”

  • The Geeze

If she gave him the same compliment in the media, it would be all over the place and feminists would hold her as their new high hero. I fear for future generations, will a mothers love become a thing of the past and will boys masculine behavior be curtailed by their mothers not for the child’s sake but for the mothers worldview?

This may be the underlying evolutionary factor behind anti feminists of old, your children grow up in an unhealthy setting for progeny and future generations. As you have more “men” in the household you have a decreased ability to raise children, that’s a fact that many westernized nations have proved over the last 30 years. Maybe I’m just a cranky old coot but people who hold such liberal ideologies will be out breed by people who hold different beliefs and that’s why feminism has no “legs” in the long run. Sorry if your personally offended, it’s not up to the individual to fill the void but this is just an observation, if you lived in Britain you would KNOW that this is true and no one seems to care.

  • Mark in Minneapolis

What is most hilarious is the fact that Obama often is praised for being “good looking” and cool. Haven’t heard a word about how such pernicious and shallow observations are dehumanizing and sexist have we?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jacki.zeigler Jacki Zeigler

Bernie, I have several problems with our current administration. Why was Obamacare printed on 2500 pages of paper instead of put on cds or dvds? Would have been cheaper and corrections would also have been cheaper and less time consuming. Isn’t our government versed in the use of laptops?
When I worked for the state, we asked for water and a cooler for our departments. Upper administration had no problem if each department paid for the water and coolers were paid for by us.
The Department of Education needs a close look. In 1974 I graduated smarter and more respectful than the students now.l
A survey needs to be taken about the duties each Federal employee does and the duplicates need to be deleted.
When I was in high school, we had a Bible study group in a classroom. No other students were bothered. I don’t think we had any aethists or agnostics in school, but when it was decided religion didn’t belong in schools, even though we were not bothering anyone, we had to quit. Talk about rights being stomped on.
I’m also having a real problem with the fact the only rights that seem to be protected are for the few who reject religion and not the greater number of citizens that strive to live good lives according to their religion.

Thank you, Mr Goldberg, you have hit it on the nail again. People are just not allowed to be honest or straightforward anymore, you have to calibrate everything you say by how it might offend some group of loonies or an other group of loonies. Anything that can be whined about by someone with an issue, however mundane, will be whined about. People need to stop allowing themselves to controlled in this manner by these PC police types. I agree with you, his response should have been – Shut. Up.

The “Offended” are the same “ladies” who have no qualms about using those same looks in order to further their careers. (Remember the casting couch?) Maybe they just wanted the compliment to not sound like what it was, so that it would not draw attention to the smile it probably elicited, or maybe that little self-satisfied smirk. :) Please, oh, please, ladies, get a life. Be nice, say thank you, and then ask how you can help overturn Obamacare and save America. Please!

  • ted

Obama’s wife said that she was a “single mom” before obfuscating with he’s a president so gone a lot and we are really together and so on. But of course she’s a single mom since her husband-in-exile is busily making eyes at attractive white women……

BO’s comments weren’t a capital offense. Just awkward. Out of context. What if he said the same words about a good looking male attorney general? He’d get some weird looks!

No teachable moment here. Why this discussion? Why not about how after he got back from Israel he repeated himself saying ‘It’s really hard to make peace’, ‘It’s actually very difficult’, ‘I mean it’s a hard thing to do’,’It’s just not easy making peace’, ‘Some things are just hard’, ‘There are few things as difficult’, ‘It is not the case that making peace is easy’? After all, isn’t that infinitely more important and directly relevant to his job description?

  • Dennis

I, for one, am delighted when feminist liberals get themselves all in a tizzy and worked up like this over something as shallow and trivial as this is. It shows them for what they are. Silly little children that adults need not bother taking seriously. Keep it up Mika et al. You are only hurting yourselves with petty, childish, pouting. Besides, if nothing else it is good humor to laugh at how small you are.

  • Kevin Hubble

This brutish remark was made about a woman who probably spends around an hour each and every morning properly cleansing and conditioning her hair, who wears perfectly color-matched powders and tints to accent to the fullest extent possible those God-given facial features that have been previously moisturized and conditioned with pure and expensive cleansers and emollients. Of course, the only women who are offended by what the President said are UGLY WOMEN who are what the feminist think all other women should be! You become a feminist when you can’t get a date and when you even scare yourself when you look into the mirror! I don’t support the President on anything! But, I’ve got to stick up for him here. I wish the other man-haters in the world would hang a mirror up in their houses and check it out every once in a while.

I agree that she IS an attractive woman and that, as Attorney General for the state of California, it';s a given that she’s smart and successful too. Despite his academic pedigree, Obama has repeatedly proven that ideology trumps common sense let alone intellect…but in this case, common sense seems to have won out for a change. Ironically, that same “common sense” is exactly what gets ideologically inflexible liberals all bent out of shape about conservatives. Here, it stung Obama…oh the humanity!

    • falcon7204

Obama has no common sense. He was “encouraged” to apologize so as not to anger all of the Leftist females out there who got whacked with the ugly stick. And there’s a lot of ‘em.

    • Deborah G

They had Obama on the Perter Pricipal in College just give him a pass and let him get his degrees so they could prove how liberal they were and got all warm and fuzzy thiking Gee Momy aren’t I a good boy………. then go off and pay someone to spank them LOL

  • http://navygentleman.com/cvn2 Red47

Oh please. We have been told for years that this sort of comments is horrifying. What he should have been taught at his tony prep school in Hawaii, is good manners. A gentleman doesn’t say such things over the lectern. I guess he was too busy with his Choom Gang antics.

    • Deborah G

It isn;t horryfying is simply should be beneath the Leade of the western World to be so casual to allow his college boy tastes to reveal themseleves a samrt man appreciates the woman but if he in that role it wasn’t inappropriate it was just well too casual. Wait for A white house party when the press isn’t all over you. I think he would be smarter than that. Not that i think it is a big deal as a woman. An appreciate look would have sufficed.

So great looking women..if upset by positive comments about their looks, should dress down their beauty: no makeup, no special hair treatments, be more like the babes in Russia..you know..no smiling, laughing, no humor, strictly business…

That could work for those dire feminists who like to play cute..but hate compliments. Personally, they play at a game and they know exactly what they’re doing. Pathetic.

    .
I must say I am thoroughly confused. First, I am under the impression that if you criticize the President about anything, well, you are a racist. Did I get that right?

And also that back in the day when then Senator Biden said that then Senator Obama was a clean looking chap, well, he was way out of line.

So what is a white guy like me to do?

Can I tell the babes they are looking good? [My wife will disapprove under any circumstances, so I am not on very sound ground on that one.]

Can I criticize the President if he does it — without being a racist because I am white and he is only half white which sets me up for an automatic — “racist” card.

So what am I to do?

    Please guide me, someone?

I am so lost and alone — and really do not give a hoot at all.

Nonsense — could someone please start creating some jobs?

    Thanks.

As a 50+ WASP, you are not alone.
I think if a woman looks good, a compliment is usually in order. Most women I know appreciate that. I would never say they look nice if it wasn’t well received.
So, did this attorney general complain about Barry’s compliment? If not, it really is not anyone else’s business (except Michelle – who just flat out scares me).

Yes, Mika Brzeninski got her job because of her name and her looks. It is embarrassing to watch her trying to make a cogent point on her show. Poor Joe has to cover for her repeatedly. On the other hand, the attractive women on Fox are by and large very bright and well informed.

    • NotADividerAndNotANotAUniter

At the risk of offending women wallowing in their perceived victimhood, I have an open suggestion for our president; Mr. President, have you seen photos of Attorney General Pam Bondi of Florida? I suggest you “Google Image” her name. OH WAIT, maybe you won’t want to do that. She happens to have intelligence, charm, grace, sophistication and class. Along with that she is also a staunch conservative and therefore you would probably find her much less than
    attractive. (smirk..smirk)

I think he;d have a childhood tent if you know what I mean LOL

  • Jim Pell

Would the feminists take offense if someone suggested they look like Susan B. Anthony?

  • Drew Page

God love you Bernie. The feminists who want to be perceived as strong women need to thicken up their skin. They need to stop being insulted when a man pays them a compliment, holds the door open for them or extends the slightest courtesy. It’s not meant to be offensive or condescending; it’s meant to be polite.
Where was all their outrage when the likes of Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Michelle Malkin and other female conservative commentators were being called nasty names by ‘men’ like Bill Mahr and Ed Schultz? Their silence then was deafening.

  • http://twitter.com/MissoulaHome Kris

I LOVE the fact he got all these feminists in an uproar!! This may be the ONLY time I will agree with this POTUS- but even better that he got the left all riled up- the absolute funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time!

It’s time they, meaning the left, took a couple bucks out of their own wallets (not someone else’s…) and went down to the corner market and bought a CLUE! and some brain cells as well for dessert. This is simply not the worst thing the POTUS has ever done- I can think of MANY things far worse than this…

Bernie, you hit a home run with this column. What’s really offensive about this President is not his appreciation for attractive women, but his narcissism, dishonesty, and socialist ideology. Even a patently patronizing remark, had he uttered it, would be trivial in light of the larger issues that confront this nation.

  • Johnny Deadline

Since women reportedly dress to impress other women rather than men, does this mean that only women are permitted to compliment other women? Can a woman complement a man, or is that out-of-bounds? Here’s an idea: let feminist women dress in hijabs and burkas. This would discourage compliments from the one or two they may obtain once a year from the visually-impaired and seeing-eye dogs, and would also serve as a public service to the rest of us. Who’s with me?

  • Deborah G

The reality? Any man who had to look at all those liberal women all day might think Michelle is fine…….until reality hits LOL

    • ksp48

      WE aren’t.

    • Drew Page

The MSM and his liberal supporters may be giving him a pass on Benghazi, but there are millions of us that do not. Remember Mr. Obama telling the press that he couldn’t comment on the Benghazi massacre because of the ongoing “investigation”? Well, it’s been seven months now since 9/11/12. Where are the results of the “investigation”? I suspect they are in the same place with the results of the “investigation” into Fast & Furious.
Queries into the death of four Americans, including our Ambassador and at least two Navy Seals are responded to with “I never got the e-mails” and “At this point, what difference does in make?”
Perhaps now, that Mr. O is safely re-elected and Secretary of State Clinton is safely retired, the results of the “investigation” can be released. But then again, there are the 2014 Congressional elections.

Well, we wouldn’t want to stir that pot again, after Reince’s “Autopsy”, now would we? Shut my mouth, but female homicide premeditated baby killers are half the problem in this country, most of them are ugly too.

  • Kathie Ampela

Why is it OK to publish photos like this of the POTUS (or president-elect, these pics were from 2008) http://fastactionnews.com/?p=288 but not OK to compliment a female attorney general on her looks? Clearly Obama’s handlers wanted these pictures published, a paparazzi doesn’t sneak up on president elect and take an unguarded photo on the beach like this. If so, the POTUS is in grave danger. Is this the new double standard? Male beauty is politically correct but female beauty isn’t? Male objectification is the new normal? Calling a president elect ” a hunk” is OK with the PC police but only if he’s a man? And who makes up these stupid rules, anyway?

The PC police are way out of control, Obama should have ignored the complaints from the dinosaur feminists and the story would have gone away. Just to be fair to the feminists, there was a time when a beautiful woman was treated differently and regarded as “ornamental” rather than “powerful” but that was then and this is now. The 70’s feminists argument that women have to be ugly and androgynous
to be powerful Is gone, a relic from another era. A woman can run on the beach in her bikini and run for president or be CEO of a company and no one will doubt her ability, intellect or power. The dinosaur radical feminist movement are just trying to hold onto their fading power that’s what this is all about. The movement succeeded, so now what do you do…pound the drum over every ridiculous non-offense to women.

    • Dave

Well said, Kathie. PC – 5% of the population gets to control what the other 95% can an can’t say.

    • Deborah G

Well said I just don’t feel that old commie lie about the war on women just what war are we talking about? it escapes me

  • http://www.facebook.com/ken.dicus Ken Dicus

Now the libtard press is offended. Pres. Obama tells them to go fly a kite because he got what he wanted from them. They worshiped their dear leader before the election and helped him win but now he doesn’t have to pretend anymore.

  • Wheels55

This seemingly innocent compliment by Obama is what gets the media to report unfavorable things about him. Finally we know what the media will slay Obama over – something that lacks substance. My conclusion is that political correctness is making us blind to what really matters in this country.
Right after this offensive compliment by Obama, Mrs. Obama was heard saying, “Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”.

    • Deborah G

      hahahha now that’s funny

  • Bob Hadley

My understanding is that President Obama apologized to Harris, not for making the remark per se but for changing the focus of the event to him and a silly remark he made. I really don’t care though.

Yes, Harris is hot. Is she the hottest attorney general in the country? How the f— should I know? Unlike Bernie and President Obama, I haven’t seen all the attorneys general in the country. In fact, i think I’ve only seen three. And she’s much hotter than Eric Holder and Hawaii’s AG, but I’m biased.

And, yes, the picture of Mika provided by John Daly is, well, sexy and provactive, as was probably intended.

My remarks above show that i have almost absolute zero interest in holding a public position of any sort – elective, appointed, etc.

I think that, given his position as POTUS, President Obama should have kept this thought to himself. Some things are more powerful when left unspoken, and I think this is one them. After all, we all have eyes, red blood cells and nerve endings, right?

I don’t think, however, anyone should make a federal case of this. It was as if the POTUS was caught copping a feel from his wife, like in the ’08 campaign when he was seen patting Michelle’s a$$. BIG DEAL!

IF anything he is the President and most Presidents except Clinton have the decorum to not be so casual. He is casual and free and breezy that’s him. I’d be more afraid of Michelle than some liberal hag.

Bernie, I’ve worked in the private sector for decades and have witnessed the same kind of mind-numbing self-righteous pandering — but for a completely different reason. Many companies conduct annual “sensitivity” training which, if followed to the letter of the law, would strictly prohibit any type of verbal exchange or eye contact between coworkers, in order to avoid the semblance of offensive behavior.

What is this great reason, you ask? If you guessed liability, you’re close. The real driving force behind Corporate America’s dumbest decisions is FEAR of liability. Why, those chauvinist pigs who rudely compliment a woman’s appearance, or ignominiously hold a door open for her, are putting our great company at risk! They must be stopped! We must convince our board of directors to dump millions into training videos to show those neanderthals that we’re serious about protecting our profits…errr, protecting our ultra-sensitive cowards. (Of course, none of the “real world examples” shown in those videos reflect real-world discrimination against white males, but I digress.)

Fear of liability is the crack pipe through which America’s CEO’s are inhaling deeply. As long as our judicial system awards multi-million dollar lawsuits for the most innocuous of actions, they’ll keep puffing away.

And somehow we wonder why America has lost its competitive edge in the world market.

I agree have at it guys as long as you aren’t a filty pig enjoy the beauty of women. I can live with that. At 62 and married for 35 years If my husband wants to say a girl is beautiful she is, I had my time I was pretty good looking in my day. I can live with it

Deb — Good for you. I was married for 40 years to a gal that shared your opinion. She passed away a little over five years ago. She kept me in line, held a job, was elected to political office and raised two great daughters who are successful in their own right today. She could tell a complimant from a come on and could hadle either. There was a real woman.

I like to think I have become a real woman without buring a bra or killing babies. I have always had my own business and I know what the libs say its because of them Well I can catagorically state it is NOT> I was born before they decided there was this war on womene I never saw or felt. Times changed and women changed. They didn’t do it WW2 did it when the women went to work in men’s jobs. They just were a bunch of homely women with a communist Volga boat song in their heads which gave them a reason for being so butt ugly inside and out. Of course men weren’t attracted to that. personally I think they are vile. I’m very comfortable in my own skin, I like being a woman and I like to cook dinner too.

Funny how the same Mika Brzezinski who posed for this photo to promote her show is now complaining about women being judged by their looks:

Beat me to it by 3 minutes, Ksp.
It’s not so much that liberals are hypocrites.
It’s that they can be shown to be hypocrites so easily!
