The Conceit of the Self-Anointed

There is a trial balloon, or at least a rumor, floating around that suggests there just might be a Hillary Clinton/Michelle Obama run for the White House in 2016. Some are actually referring to it as a dream ticket. More like a nightmare. But I am willing to make book it doesn’t happen. Anyone who actually believes Mrs. Obama would play second fiddle to the honky bitch probably thinks that if that idea doesn’t pan out, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny might consider making a run for the White House. At least those two seem to like each other.

Even at this late date, there are conservative pundits who insist that Barack Obama is brilliant. In trying to figure out where people get that wacky idea, I have concluded it’s because they, too, attended an Ivy League college. There’s nothing like snobbism to make people turn a blind eye to reality. So even though Obama announced that there are 57 states in the Union, informed us that Austrians speak Austrian, that “corps” is pronounced “corpse,” that the federal government doesn’t have a spending problem and that a $17 trillion debt is nothing to get excited about, they continue to insist he’s a genius.

Even though five years ago, when he pointed out that George Bush had raised the national debt four trillion dollars in eight years, he said it was not only irresponsible, but unpatriotic, he nevertheless turned around and raised that same debt eight trillion dollars in just four years, and said it was hunky dory.

Brilliant? At the risk of insulting morons, I’d say he’s a moron, and if the media didn’t keep propping him up, and refusing to ask him any embarrassing questions, even Ivy Leaguers might catch on. Unfortunately, it’s far too easy to pull the sheepskin over conservatives’ eyes, so long as they, too, attended Harvard, Yale or Princeton.

When you see the members of the White House press corps sitting politely scribbling down every whopper Jay Carney spouts, you begin to wonder if perhaps when it comes to them, the appropriate word really is corpse.

The biggest single difference between the members of the press and sheep is that someone has to hold the sheep down in order to shear them. It was Jack Kennedy who first defanged the media. He pretended he respected them and, dopes that they are, they fell for his malarkey. That only went to prove that Walter Cronkite was no smarter than Marilyn Monroe or Angie Dickinson.

In order to prove that he wasn’t kidding about the seriousness of the Sequester, Obama shut down tours of the White House. Interestingly enough, it didn’t prevent his spending roughly a million dollars so that he could scratch playing a round of golf with Tiger Woods off his bucket list. It also didn’t force him to fire even one of the three official White House calligraphers who cost the tax-payers $275,000-a-year. Speaking of which, I guess I should have heeded my mother’s advice when she told me that in the long run, it was more important to write fancy than to write well.

Recently, I was shocked to hear that whereas only 28% of Africa is considered wilderness, 38% of the U.S. has that distinction. I know we have a lot of mountains, forests and deserts, but it didn’t seem possible until I began to suspect that the folks who came to that conclusion were including places like Chicago, Philadelphia and Detroit.

A mystery that confounds me is how dumb does someone need to be in order to be an environmental zealot. I mean, solar panel companies fail on a regular basis, electric cars continue to go unloved and unsold, windmills keep slaughtering endangered birds by the thousands and we keep spending billions of dollars buying oil from our most vile enemies when we’re sitting on huge deposits of coal, oil and natural gas, and the greenies keep pretending that Mother Nature will die if they don’t get their way.

What makes their behavior so weird is that Mother Nature is hardly the feeble old lady they pretend she is. This is the same broad who was responsible for the tsunami that hit Japan, the hurricane that nearly washed New Orleans off the map and that just a few months ago forced Chris Christie to lock his lips on Barack Obama’s fanny and hang on for dear life.

It’s to be expected that environmentalists would be left-wingers. After all, only liberals would look at what’s been happening in Italy, Spain and Greece, and say, “Look at those thriving socialist economies. That’s what we need over here. Thank heaven Obama sees it that way, too.”

Only a liberal loon would ignore the fact that redistribution of wealth inevitably leads to a redistribution of poverty.
But, then, only a leftist would continue to ballyhoo unions. While it’s true that, say, a century ago, unions were necessary, with time they became, at best, a necessary evil. And, finally, as they morphed into sinecures for thugs, slugs and incompetents, they simply ended up evil.

Ok, Bern’…enough of the nonsensical Fox-based propaganda. OBAMA only “blamed” Bush II for the 11+ trillion dollar debt left to him when HE was BLAMED for it. He had/has to contend with – wipe that smirk off, please – the INTEREST on that 11+ trillion, which might be THREE trillion additional trillion on his watch, plus the two unfunded wars and the fallout, the unfunded pharma and the unfunded tax relief program for zillionaires-that one cost us about 2.5 trillion. (Gee, and we thought you were…fair and balanced.

    • MarioG

If you liberal propagandists would take the trouble to read the book Reckless Endangerment and the documentation on which it is based you would see that the economy Obama inherited was created, protected and defended by the Democrats. It was started by Bill Clinton’s use of the Community Reinvestment Act and then led by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

Bush’s income tax rate cuts INCREASED federal tax receipts, just like the income tax rate cuts under Harding, Kennedy and Reagan. Obama’s addition to the national debt is a lot more than interest.

Re the unfunded wars bullshit, the deficits during the 8 years of Bush averaged 3.5% of GDP in spite of the two wars and the national debt increased by $4.5 trillion in 8 years. Obama called Bush unpatriotic and irresponsible for this. Obama has wound down the two wars yet the deficits have averaged over 10% of GDP and the national debt has increased by an even more irresponsible and unpatriotic $6 trillion in less than 4 years.

      • http://www.facebook.com/phil.silverman.9 Phil Silverman

Bush II left 11+ trillion in debt; Reagan left 2.6 trillion in 1989. Clinton left a budget surplus. Obama has has to pay the INTEREST on that 11+ trillion (amounting to about 3 trillion) plus fund the unfunded wars, pharma, etc.
Barney Frank what? His job was to enforce the bipartisan law; and by the way he struggled to no avail to have subprime apply only to RENTALS. Despite what Bill O’Reilly shrieks about.

        • MarioG

Once again, the selective references to Bush and Reagan taken completely out of context. BTW, both had to rebuild our security apparatus which Republican presidents always have to do from the devastating defense cuts by their Democrat predecessors.

Bill Clinton’s first budget proposal showed $200 billion deficit every year while reneging on his middle-income tax cut showing he had no clue what to do about the economy. Then after his wife botched Hillarycare, he lost both houses for the first time in 40 years. It was only by realizing he was clueless and working with Newt Gingrich and John Kasich, who produced the balanced budgets, did Clinton’s economy start looking up. Then came the technological and communications revolutions and the dot.com bubble and voila, he got his surplus like winning the lottery while having no idea what was going on. We can see this even today when he still doesn’t have a clue.

It was Bill Clinton who resuscitated the Community Reinvestment Act and started threatening the banks with lawsuits if they did not lend more money to risky credits. His henchmen in the trenches were Barney Frank and Chris Dodd not to mention Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Bush and McCain actually tried to stop the madness but did not have the votes. Then the long Bush business cycle finally ended and the house of cards collapsed in 2008.

Since you are probably too lazy to read the well documented book Reckless Endangerment, at least read the cliff-note version in this column, and get a clue:

          • MarioG

What Obama is doing has NOTHING to do with anything Bush and Reagan did, yet you keep mentioning them to distract attention from what is happening NOW.

          • MarioG

Breitbart did truncate the Sherrod tape that was in the news, but if you listened to the entire tape Sherrod made numerous racist references including some aimed at Bush. However, how can YOU talk with all the disinformation you are attempting to spread here, either deliberately or because you get your news from Media Matters, Daily Kos and the other Soros-funded propaganda sites that coordinate their coverage with the White House.

  • MarioG

I wonder if Bernie has noticed the “conceit” of his buddy, Bill O’Reilly – the self-anointed crusader “looking out for the folks”. How does anyone with more than half a brain “look out for the folks” by describing Barack Obama as a good guy – he’s just the opposite, a vicious, duplicitous partisan – brilliant – he’s anything but – and giving him the benefit of every doubt after almost 5 years of evidence that he is clueless and incompetent at best and a dangerous statist ideologue at worst.

    • http://www.facebook.com/phil.silverman.9 Phil Silverman

How is Obama NOT looking out for the folks? Ask GM and Chrysler hires and buyers – ask returning Iraqi soldiers – ask cancer patients now able to buy coverage and not be denied for mercenary reasons. How is credit card & student loan reform AGAINST people?

      • MarioG

Here’s how: 90 million Americans unemployed, 50 million on food stamps, 9 million on disability, $17 TRILLION in national debt, cancer patients under Medicare being denied coverage. Government run student loans is brazen vote buying because no one needs to repay their loans anymore. Why is the government involved in making student loans anyway? Do you know ANY country where poverty and oppression has NOT increased under Obama’s socialist-style statism?

        • http://www.facebook.com/phil.silverman.9 Phil Silverman

did the obstructionist House have anything to do with the high unemployment? not reading Infrastructure bills – encouraging Red States to return stimulus $$$? Socialist style!!! :) Can U give one example outside of the Big Three? >>>>No. Under AFCA, there will be no denial of cancer coverage based upon $$$$$$ reasons. You are wrong. Re. that “726″ factor in Medicare, none of that REMOVAL AFFECTS the beneficiaries. Got it? In fact, Obama is looking for all those overpayments to vendors under W. >>>17 trillion? YES, it never should have gone more than about 3 trillion over the 11+ trillion her was left with BUT HE HAS HAD TO PAY OFF THE INTEREST on that 11+!! Plus pay off the unfunded wars, etc. >>>>Food Stamps, unemployment…gee, I wonder if that has something to do with Obstruction of the greatest workforce in history. Despite your presumptive heros, like Corp. raider Romney.

          • MarioG

No, it didn’t because Obama and the Democrats set the stage by passing Obamacare during 2009 and 2010 when they controlled both houses of Congress. Since then they have continued their assault on US job creators – primarily the small and medium sized businesses which have traditionally created over 80% of our jobs – through threats of tax increases and reams of baseless regulations, obstructing energy production and refusing to approve the Keystone pipeline.

Romney is provably one of the most successful Americans who donated his entire inheritance and made millions by risking his own money in buying, re-building and selling several corporations and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and dozens of millionaires among his partners, not to mention saving a defunct Winter Olympics.

By contrast, the clueless and incompetent Obama, who has never run a business or held a job in the private sector, is a socialist-style statist when anyone with more than half a brain and did not go to an Ivy League liberal indoctrination institution would know that this ideology has only created more poverty and oppression wherever it has actually been used.

If he is as brilliant as his supporters say then he is deliberately destroying everything that made this country great. You cannot have it both ways.

Clueless and incompetent, or brilliant and diabolical. Take your pick.

          • http://www.facebook.com/phil.silverman.9 Phil Silverman

“clueless”, “incompetent”? care to put that in perspective? :) Read WORSE THAN WATERGATE about the Cheney-Bush adm. and read THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD about Reagan’s giving away blue collar money to Japan to England.

          • MarioG

It looks like you cannot conceive of any response to what is going on NOW without trying to obfuscate the issues with references taken completely out of context to days gone by.

Here’s the perspective. Bush was a 2-term governor of our second largest state and was re-elected with a bigger margin that the initial election. He was also re-elected President by a larger margin than his election. Obama, the community agitator with the pretend-resume was re-elected with a smaller margin.

Bush inherited a recession from Clinton and a weakened security apparatus where the CIA could not share intel with the FBI. Also an emboldened Al Qaeda who called us a “weak horse” for not responding to their attacks throughout the 90′s. That led directly to 9/11 and its economic aftershocks. Bush turned it around with tax rate cuts that ended the recession after one quarter and led to INCREASED tax receipts and slow but steady growth for 52 straight months which is a US record, just BTW.

The deficits during the 8 years of the “big spender” Bush averaged 3.5% of GDP and the unemployment rate averaged 5%. The national debt increased $4.5 trillion in 8 years as he fought 2 wars to push the Islamic terrorists back from the mainland and 2 Muslim dictatorships now have a shot at the freedom and democracy that you take for granted.

Under Obama the deficits have been over 10% of GDP, the unemployment rate has averaged 9% and the national debt has increased by over $6 trillion in less than 4 years even while winding down the 2 wars..

The small and medium sized business sectors where over 80% of our jobs come from are frozen in place because of the uncertainties of Obamacare and the constant threats of increased taxes and crippling regulations

          • http://twitter.com/PhilSilverman7 Phil Silverman

BUSH INHERITED A BUDGET SURPLUS and yes there was debt. But considering what Clinton got from the Supply Side boys…not bad.

          • MarioG

Bush did inherit a budget surplus but he also inherited a recession from Clinton, a depleted defense budget claiming a “cold war dividend” and a broken security apparatus where the CIA were not allowed to share intel with the FBI. Not to mention an emboldened Al Qaeda, which called us a “weak horse” and attacked us on 9/11 convinced that we did not have the willingness or ability to defend ourselves. Thank God Bush was president or Clinton may have still been dithering as he did throughout the numerous attacks on us by Al Qaeda during the 90′s. Clinton did not even accept Bin Laden when Sudan offered him up by claiming he did not have probable cause to hold him. Good grief! This was after Bin Laden had admitted responsibility for the attacks in Saudi Arabia, Kenya and Tanzania at the time.

          • http://twitter.com/PhilSilverman7 Phil Silverman

uh…no. again. sorry. Bush II’s tax relief program added about 3 trillion $$$ to the debt and was NOT an incentive for job creation. Reagan had steady growth…and 11 tax raises and a 2.6 trillion $$$ debt left to Bush I. Bush II lost 4 million jobs in a 6 month period and about 700,000 per. mo. – then he generously told the nation how screwed up things were. By the way, despite the most Obstructionist House in History Obama’s growth has been steady, too, since about mid-2009. don’t look so sad.

          • MarioG

Sigh! This is embarrassing. I should be charging you for all this re-education. To begin with, you should immediately quit getting your news from Media Matters and the other Soros-funded propaganda sites.

You don’t even seem to know the difference between “deficits” and “tax receipts”. Bush’s tax rate cuts turned the Clinton recession around, and INCREASED economic growth and thereby INCREASED tax receipts. The deficits took place because of SPENDING INCREASES that exceeded the INCREASED TAX RECEIPTS.

The deficits averaged 3.5% of GDP during Bush’s 8 years – in spite of two wars – whereas they have averaged OVER 10% of GDP under Obama – in spite of winding down the two wars. Trillions of dollars down the drain expanding government and buying votes.

The unemployment rate averaged 5% during the 8 years of Bush, and 9% under Obama so far. The national debt increased $4.5 trillion in 8 years of Bush and over $6 trillion in less than 4 years under Obama. What about this are you unable to grasp?

Go to http://www.WhiteHouse.gov/Historicals and click on Table 1.1. Read Reckless Endangerment. Do something to get a clue.

You don’t even know that Obama had no obstructionist anything for TWO WHOLE YEARS, 2009 and 2010 during which he did the most damage and set the stage for the damage that was to follow. A horrified country gave the House to the GOP to STOP the madness.

Those on the left that think M. Obama could be a VP probably think that she can do it if Biden can. Even Biden had extensive political experience before getting in over his head. Hillary could be President, but does she have the energy to clean up the mess Obama made? And, those on the left swimming in the Obama waters may not want the Clintons in office to…wait for it…point fingers at their predecessor.

    • Burt Prelutsky

Wheels: I’m not convinced Hillary Clinton believes Obama has created a mess. After all, she was pushing HillaryCare 20 years ago. Hillary has been a good soldier for Obama. That much is true. It makes me wonder if she has given up on running in 2016. Benghazi…do you know the history of that region of the world and the local war zones? Obama’s fault? how? The CIA was on the scene within 25 minutes. Their support was reduced by the GOP at the Capitol.

        • MarioG

Obama and Clinton CUT security in Libya even though the Ambassador asked for an increase in security. The GOP had nothing to do with the administration’s deadly incompetence in Benghazi. Reinforcements were not sent even as the attack was in progress. Then they lied about it through Susan Rice and Clinton and Obama did the same. This may still lead to the impeachment of Obama. It will certainly kill any chance of another Clinton presidency because it adds to every other task that Hillary has handled since Whitewater that has been an unmitigated disaster. Her only qualification is being a cuckolded wife of a president who conducted a war on several women and then had to plead guilty of lying under oath and obstructing justice and lost his law license as a result.

          • http://www.facebook.com/phil.silverman.9 Phil Silverman

The GOP ha everything to do with reducing security in the embassies. They lied? Care to explain? Ya mean the “video” mess? That’s *your* supposition.
There is no way it would lead to impeachment of Obama because they were reporting what was reporting to them.
Just 4 perspective, were you disappointed when Reagan was not impeached over violating the Boland Amendment and then letting War Hero North take the blame; for the “Beirut 241″; etc.? You disappointed that Bush II was not impeached over the [Cheney-manufactured] war in Iraq. I don’t say Bush “lied” but that situation is a lot closer to a “lie” than what happened w Benghazi. That embassy tragedy/situation has occurred over and over again in that part of the world.
It will amount to another huge fishing expedition to get one guppie to use against Obama.

          • MarioG

The GOP has no control over the security at any embassy. At the same time clueless Clinton was CUTTING security in chaotic Libya she were providing additional security in “dangerous” France and building electric car charging stations at embassies in Europe. So much for budgetary restrictions. Here’s a more credible account of the administration’s cover up of the needless deaths of 4 Americans in Benghazi:

          • MarioG

Sigh! The Obama administration is blaming their failure to provide security in Benghazi on budget cuts. In the meantime the same foreign service budget was being used to buy electric cars and building charging stations for them at some of our embassies in Europe.

          • MarioG

          • MarioG

The Nuremberg Trials established that the leaders are responsible for what happens under their command. I was trying to be funny. There are some presidents who know what it takes to run a country. They include lately Regan and Romney but I am sure you don’t what to hear that. The only thing that Obama is good at is running for office and being a community organizer. If fact, he even failed at that job. Tell me why did he only provide jets to Libya to kill the dictator and not have a plan developed and use his Acorn group in Libya ahead of time to organize and steer those poor devils into the right direction. Don’t you find that unusual ? Even Bush, who you hate, had a plan to provide some guidelines to form a somewhat representative government. In fact, I remember the pictures of women who were smiling after being able lift their ink stained finger after voting for some candidate.

Reagan knew how to run a Country? He did some very good things and I was proud of him but I also know his laundry list of failure, starting with supply side – read DAVID STOCKMAN’s book on how it failed. Want to go down that list, and talk about how RR let Don Regan turn Wall Street into a Casino which yielded the S & L crisis and all the over-deregulation which led to ’08. He fired 11,000 airtraffic controllers for partisan reasons only. On paper he was right. But he could layed off some, docked them all, maybe locked up a few. BAD BUSINESS!! He let Margaret Thatcher lead him around by the nose and so he gave away about 25% of the country to England. He gave us amnesty for illegals. Iran Contra. The “Beirut 241″. He left Bush I a 2.6 trillion dollar deficit. Now Mr. Romney….he created more business overseas than here…here he basically duplicated Staples with Office Max (excuse me if reversed the names). As part of Bain he raided struggling, not failing companies, sent AMERICANS to the Unemployment line and his profits from the raid overseas. He sends 8 of his healthcare experts to Washington to write AFCA then says it’sno good – the national version of Romneycare.
But what’s the point? many, many good Presidents (like Nixon, Eisenhower) never ran a their own cash register. As I wrote, government should balance the books, ofcourse, but it is essentially non-profit. The best thing it can do is return $$$$ to the tax base, used to place people in jobs. By the way, the biggest thing gov’t does is run the military. Does a President need retail exp. to do that?

Bush 43 was a Texas oilman, managed the Texas Rangers and was elected and re-elected Governor of our second largest state, the re-election by a larger margin than the election.

Bush II did not succeed in running a private business until the Rangers. He “managed” the Rangers? I don’t recall that. Okay…name some more Republicans who “ran a business”. By the way, the government is set up to be non-profit. It exists as an advocate for business. Ofcourse it’s not supposed to get into great debt…both parties are expert at that.

Bush did not manage the baseball players – he managed the club as a co-owner. Based on his resume no one would hire Obama to run a lawn care service, yet they just re-hired him to run largest organization in the world even as he is setting us up to be like Greece. The reason is the growing dependency on government which he heartily endorses. Voters making less than $30K a year gave him a plurality of 7 million votes to protect the free stuff they need to survive in Obama’s stagnant economy. Those making more than $30K a year gave Romney, with a resume of success that doesn’t quit, a margin of 3 1/2 million votes. These are the people pulling the cart in which the former group are sitting.

Here’s an analysis of the dearth of business experience in the Obama administration:

really? is that so? – Obama was Editor of the Harvard Law Review, was a successful Lawyer; Senator for 8 years; ran a jobs training program when he could made millions $$$$ on Wall Street. His resume WAS comparatively light, I know that. But this deep into his adm. you are still trying to trivialize his Life? :)

          • MarioG

Like everything else about Obama his being made editor of the Harvard Law Review was another affirmative action appointment. The proof lies in the fact that no one has been able to find a single law review under his name while he was the editor.

His being a “successful lawyer” included suing Citibank to make more bad loans to poor credits in Chicago and being an instructor, not a professor, at a law school. He could not go to Wall Street because those sharks do not operate on an affirmative action basis.

His life is highlighted by writing TWO biographies before he was 40 and hadn’t done a damn thing and by his long list of anti-American mentors like communist Frank Marshall Davis, Islamic terrorist sympathizers like Edward Said and Rashid Khalidi, domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, Chicago thugs like Tony Rezko and anti-Semitic pastors like Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger. In one of his books he bragged about lokking for and hanging out with the Marxist students.

            Wise up.

On the Hillary/Michelle ticket, I think it is nothing more than a ploy to raise money. I find the Dems are soliciting at an ever more aggressive rate, sending out pleas with every single bill passed by the House, every recorded statement from anyone they label “extreme”. Throw in a little Karl Rove each time. It’s at least weekly. Can you send $5? $3? John, our records show you have not joined this year (actual texts I receive from party offices)……I don’t know what joined means, but there are a thousands jokes waiting to be typed. Pushing that ‘dream’ ticket surely is just a way to excite the base to toss in some greenbacks.

And although I’ve not really heard any Republicans actually refer to the president as brilliant, many do warn not to underestimate him. Either his ability to win political leverage (which he does with media support often) or his agenda. And I think that is good advice. I also suspect some may try to paint him in a more ‘glorifying’ way just as a counterbalance to the forces that portray him as the most evil socialist bent on “destroying” the country, etc. It seems many who choose to make their living opining about politics in public (writing, speaking, etc.) more often than not play those kinds of ‘image’ games, rather than just offer straight facts with their analysis.

John: Even I get several emails a week from the DNC asking me to donate. I guess it doesn’t cost them anything, but it does make them seem even dopier than usual.

If you haven’t heard any conservatives refer to Obama as brilliant, it can only mean that you don’t listen to as much talk radio as some people. I guess you’re probably saving lives and putting out fires while the rest of us are sticking to business.

Obama is an evil socialist bent on destroying America. It’s not a matter of his being portrayed in some distorted fashion. He said he would radically transform this country and, for once, he wasn’t lying.

Michelle will not run. It will be Clinton and Christie. (on the Dem. side).

Wasn’t it George Orwell who said “Some ideas are so absurd only an intellectual can believe them”?

If you have to ask, then you’re not dumb enough to understand.
