I browse the available offerings of a few online purveyors of information (Reuters, News Nation, Mediaite, The Free Press, New York Sun, WSJ, The Dispatch and a local and regional) but not necessarily every day and certainly not front to back. I have no need to tune into Fox as I have someone who watches it 3-4 hours each day and is all to giddy to tell me the latest move or speech by the All-Knowing Yogurt. I've shared several of John and Bernie's posts with other hoping to entice meaningful discussive exchange. I had no idea how many of my friends think Jesse Waters is an oracle.
Hi Scott, a few points: I appreciate the reference to the all-knowing Yogurt from Spaceballs. it took me a minute to get it [is he talking about Trump? or Hannity?].
I am sorry you have an FNC addict you have to put up with on a daily basis.
I will admit that FNC's website and "hard news" is good, as evidenced by Bill Megulin's reporting on the Southern Border last year, but it is offset by their OPINION commentators like Hannity and Watters basically running cover for Trump and all of his misdeeds. That's why you can basically switch off after Bret Baier and turn on again (if you must) for Shannon Bream.
To John And Bernard: I'll be the guy in the meme that stands up to make an (unpopular?) point that paying subscribers are doing so to get Bernie's opinion, on matters of the day/week and not retrospectives of his former work, as good as it was. With all due respect to John, we don't want a "Bernie Goldberg's greatest hits" tour instead of his takes on the latest developments. Even if they are one or two paragraphs.
Having him drop out of the Q&A sessions was a bad move IMO, and devalued the subscription. I mean, it's STILL listed as a reason to subscribe on the subscription page!
If you are going to preach truth to power and transparency, the least you could do is uphold your own standards. I think John wrote a piece about that IIRC.
I'm probably not the only one to notice that the Q&A engagement metrics have fallen off a cliff since then, and I was in two minds about resubscribing as I'd only joined initially for the pre- and immediate post election coverage.
It looks like the die-hard MAGA types have jumped ship to get their red meat since Trump was re-elected. If things continue as they are, I won't be renewing my subscription.
As previously mentioned, there's not going to be a lot of great news coming out of America for the foreseeable future with a corrupt autocrat president in charge, sending America to hell in a handbasket and basically paving the way for white collar crime to be normalized for those who can afford pay (bribe) their way to clemency or a pardon.
If Joe Biden did the same things Trump has done this year, you would be hearing the cries of blue murder from the GOP, and yet they remain silent in their complicity and hypocrisy when the evidence of their dear leader's actions is right in front of them.
I already know how this is going to play out, as alluded to in earlier episodes. Americans will have had a gutful of the brazen corruption, disregard for social norms and institutions and upending of their lives by the time the mid-terms roll around, and will vote more Democrats back in, rendering Trump a lame duck president for the rest of his term.
That will not stop him, however, from making insane pronouncements and using the power of his office for personal enrichment whilst making Americans (and maybe the world) worse off.
My Foxophiles only watch Waters, Hannity, and Gutfeld. Any critiques (not necessarily criticisms) of anything regarding "The Donald" are just a que to launch into TSD (Trump Sycophant Defense). It's quite remarkable to see how TSD is triggered by non-political (or so I thought) pursuits. Apparently for my Maganoids, objective analysis is like garlic to a vampire!
Wow, great points, all of you guys! Hey, so Bernie and John, your opinions on News Nation, Bill O., and Dan Abrams? Chris Cuomo raises many good, valid topics and gives much food for thought on them from his heart. Elizabeth Vargas, Niall Stanage, et el. as well. Thoughts?
Re: Me purchasing new subscriptions. Trust me, I would IF…I KNEW that the recipients would ACTUALLY USE this Substack! I want to spread the word and promote this Substack, i honestly do ! However I am not going to waste money buying people gifts that they’re going to end up ignoring. It’s the equivalent of somebody buying ME gift certificates for Starbucks or Ben & Jerry’s or season tickets to venues that hold rap concerts and raves!
Agreed that News Nation is a good conservative choice. I have quit watching CBS news because they are so bias. They don’t even try to be balanced. You lie to me once, shame on you. Once I catch you in a lie (Biden’s health) then I question everything you say. Croncite was trustworthy even if personally liberal.
Bernie, not a fan of News Nation? I find it's pretty good viewing.
But I agree having multiple sources of information is the best way to avoid falling into an echo chamber that reinforces your pre existing biases, whether that be in the written form or TV.
Sorry, I won't be buying a gift subscription because even though you do a great job of pleading, I don't know any other American political tragics in my part of the world.
Added to the fact there will not be a lot of good news coming out of the USA in the next three years, except for the World Cup in 2026. Ever thought of a free trial subscription?
