Spot on!!! Political campaigns in this country have become a “race to the bottom”. Instead of selling your political strengths, it’s all about making the other side look worse. We absolutely get what we vote for in this country.
What is sort of ironic to me is listening to JD Vance speak- he's so boring and polite, it's a breath of fresh air from listening to all the rest. I now don't mind 'boring.'

I recently wrote a question about this very subject to John on the Daily Weekly. Trump voters have taken it in the shorts from Democrats for 10 years, and I objected to the lumping together of 75+ million voters, as if we were all one monolith of MAGA acolytes. Voters are only given mostly binary choices by their parties and often have to hold our nose at the ballot box. I just hate blaming and pitting Americans against each other as evil vs. pure. However, in terms of blaming voters, I changed my mind in my home state of Texas when my fellow Republicans elected John Paxton in the senate primary. True, Trump came in with a last minute endorsement that took Paxton over the top, but Trump's endorsement doesn't have to be treated as gospel. Paxton is the definition of a corrupt politician and despicable human, and we Texas Republican voters have lost our collective minds.
It's a natural progression of the polarization in our country. If your side is the "good" side, and the other side not just wrong, but EVIL and a "threat to the very survival of our country", then defeating evil is the only thing that matters. If that means electing a morally bankrupt person who has the right letter next to their name (or to use the Seinfeld sports analogy, wears the right color jersey), then it's a small price to pay to "save the country".
