I think it's time for the tribalists in both parties to just be honest. They need to just come out and admit the truth, which is: "We really don't care about principles, policy, democracy, the rule of law, the Constitution, political violence, hypocrisy, or morality. The only thing that matters is that our side 'wins', and the other side 'loses'. The other side is so evil, so bad, that we simply need to do whatever it takes to stop them, even if it means ignoring the institutions and rule of law that have governed this country for over 200 years."

Yes, that is the case. The end justifies the means.

We miss the Krauthammer types.

Ed Koch used to call himself a "liberal with sanity". We could sure use sanity nowadays.

Using any whataboutism to discuss Signal is nonsense. Shame on Gutfeld, in this case, and any effort on either side to divert attention via whataboutism .

As an old person (88 years old) I muse on two bits of information that I became aware of in the '70's. 1) We were declining as a country that manufactures and 2) we were becoming an "information" economy according to Marshall McLuhan. It was happening slowly but insidiously like the proverbial fish in the pot of boiling water. This gradual change has not only changed our economy system but also our educational system ... vocational education and vocational schools no longer exist. While I believe there is a place for the arts, philosophy, academics (I have a Master's in Linguistics) I want to bring back the manufacturing of my youth. We need builders, tradesmen, craftsmen, vocational ed. We also need address the needs of young people who do not want or qualify to get an academic bachelor's or master's degree

There are currently about a half a million open manufacturing jobs in the United States. Americans don't want them. Destroying our trade partnerships, dramatically increasing prices and the likelihood of a recession, and trying to dismantle and reassemble our nation's economy, with the supposed goal (depending on the day of the week) of bolstering U.S. manufacturing jobs (which the administration's own numbers don't support), is a catastrophically bad idea.

But just as the change was gradual, the change "back" has to be gradual as well, if it is even practical. There are still plenty of electricians and plumbers in America, since you can't outsource that work.

I also notice Trump doesn't seem to care about all the programming and tech jobs going to India and other countries. We will not be the world leader in anything if just build factories to "make stuff" while all the computers and software that runs them is made and controlled by others.

BERNIE, President Donald Trump is doing what he’s doing to save this country from bankruptcy. That is the bottom line! The left wants us to go into bankruptcy so they can turn this country into a socialist government.

What evidence is there that he's trying to save this country from bankruptcy? His adding of nearly $8 trillion to the national debt during his first term? His continued refusal to reform entitlements (the major driver of our debt)? His dismantling of our trade system into a centralized planning model (talk about socialism)? His needless depleting of people's retirement investments?

Whenever I hear someone argue that Trump, the self-professed King of Debt and anti-free-trader, is trying to save us from bankruptcy or socialism, I'm reminded of a cheesy 1990s sci-fi movie called "I Come in Peace" (with Dolph Lundgren), in which an alien villain keeps saying "I Come in Peace" just before killing a room full people.

BERNIE, I get pissed off when I make a post to you and then it is erased by having to get a code to say the same thing over again. Please correct this insanity.

Unabated ars-kissing has always been a hallmark of working for and with Trump in business. I can understand how that works. You sometimes do what you have to do for a job. Trump has managed to get large numbers of people to willingly do this when they really don't need to. Will his "get even" politics ever wear thin enough or harm enough voters personally that he loses his mojo?

Question for Friday John,

It seems that Rand Paul has gotten on Trumps bad side since criticizing the tariffs? Trump harped on him among others in a tweet. Is it possible a Rand Paul type could potentially revamp the tea party movement or something similar? I’m pleasantly surprised, I thought Rand Paul was a MAGA zombie
