Living in the Past

America’s oldest civil rights organization, the NAACP, has passed a resolution condemning what it sees as racism in the Tea Party movement.

The group’s president, Ben Jealous, said in a statement, “We take issue with the Tea Party’s continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no space for racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in their movement.”

This is very good news.  I will explain in a moment.

And just the other day, after the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers wrote a dumb, angry rant expressing unhappiness because his star player, LeBron James, left the team for Miami, Jesse Jackson said the Cavs boss sees James as nothing more than a “runaway slave.”

This is more good news.

I mean, If the nation’s most prestigious civil rights organization and the nation’s best-known civil rights advocate have time for such silly crap, things must be just swell in black America.

In the old days, civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King were busy with stuff like voting rights and integrating America’s schools and securing the rights of black Americans to eat at lunch counters and stay at decent hotels, just like white folks.  You know, important sutff! Now they’re busy comparing a guy who makes hundreds of millions of dollars a “slave” and smearing a movement because of a few bigots in the crowd.

By that standard, the NAACP should condemn itself.  During the presidential campaign of 2000, the civil rights organization ran a vile TV ad that linked George W. Bush to a vicious modern day lynching.  The ad was about a black man, James Byrd, who was dragged to his death from the back of a pick up truck by three white racists.

In the ad, over black and white footage of a pickup truck dragging a chain, the daughter of the murdered man says, “So when Gov. George W. Bush refused to sign hate crimes legislation, it was like my father was killed all over again.”

Here’s an idea:  any organization that runs such filth to make cheap political points has no business lecturing anybody about anything.

The problem is that the NAACP and Jesse Jackson are stuck in the past.  Their glory days were the 1960s when they accomplished so much.  Instead of worrying about trivial stuff, they should spend every waking minute trying to deal with much more important things, like a black illegitimacy birth rate of 70 percent.  If the NAACP and Jesse Jackson could fix that, they’d fix much of what ails black America.  But since they don’t have a clue as to how to deal with a real problem of that magnitude, they spend their time on nonsense.   And in reality, this is not good news at all.

I think Bernie is both right and wrong. After visiting the NAACP web site (www.naacp.org) I believe they are more focused not on the past, but on a future embracing socialism and left-wing causes. Case in point… Ben Jealous giving Van Jones the NAACP’s 2009 President’s Award!

NAACP… re-read your own pledge and as Bernie said, strive to tackle the real issues facing people of color.

      Bernie,

In your last paragraph you state that the NAACP and Jesse Jackson “have no clue”, but in reality they know exactly what is wrong – they just don’t care!

What the NAACP should also focus on is education. If kids in poor neighborhoods had school vouchers so they could get decent educations, they’d have a chance to have better lives.

JACKSON AND SHARPTON STARTED OUTTO BE (HOPEFULLY) A BATON PASS FROM KING. That didn’t happen. If these two were white nobody would listen to them, and news agencies of most ilks wouldn’t have their rants on their channels. Looks like the NAACP has dropped the baton as well.

Is there any question in anyone’s mind why angry ranting people aren’t taken seriously? I read all of these comments and I still don’t see where any evidence has been shown of any racism in the Tea Party. I would be glad to research it on my own if ANYONE could give a real piece of evidence instead of filth filled rants.

You will grow old and gray waiting for evidence of racism at TEA party protests, because there is none! I am a black woman and have been a supporter of the TEA party movement since the beginning and have been angry with the lap-dog media’s attempts at labeling it racists since the beginning. Honest thoughtful people aren’t falling for this race bating nonsense; I take comfort in that.

Don’t even try to rationalize with some of these kooks. They chatter constantly about racism but gloss over actions from the NBPP. The ignorant call others ignorant, the angry call others angry and the racist call others racist. 21st Century America. My main worry is when the media becomes so connected to an idealology, they filter what the public is entitled to hear. Sounds like the Iron Curtain. I make bold to say there is member of any federal or state legislative, executive or mayorial body in which a member of the new or old black panther movement has been elected to. Secondly, any rationale person that looked at the person that spewed all that hate will know he is not all there!! thirdly, Fox has given more credence to a group that nobody (whatever their race except for may be 100 maladjusted people in the entire USA) would pay anything but a curious and fleeting glance at.

Fourthly, why dignify the NAACP with commenting on a looney fring group that was in the past best ignored. If however, they were on the verge of being elected and having more than the 100 (if that) total US membership then I might concur. GET A LIFE!!

Peter, {are you related to Helen Thomas?} Having been in Dr King’s 1960′s Civil Rights’ movement, stayed in DC’s ”Tent City,” had a child denied medical treatment because he wasn’t all white {paternal side}, & proudly wear the Star of David, I’ve probably witnessed a bit more descrimination than you. The NAACP is not of the days of Roy Wilkins, Rosa Parks or the innocent child Emmett Till. The Tea Party has nothing to do with bigotry. It wants our nation to adhere to the Constitution & the Declaration of Independence from which it has strayed. Are you unaware Obama brings up the race card {& now the name card} more than anybody? He motivates groups {using his black parent’s race}, that were once true advocates of equality for ALL people, to blindly follow him down a dead end street. The NAACP was never intended to be political. The attempt of this Obama adminstration to divide people is a great shame on the memory of Dr Martin L King who seems to have died in vain. Perhaps, Peter, before you defend any cause for being or not being racist you should- a} look into the group’s history & learn what its primary function was, why it was established, and b} find out why you’re anti-Semitic, what inside you makes you hate Jews. It’s difficult for a bigot to recognize another’s {charges of bigotry}- as appears to be the case with your defending the {New} NAACP.

The NAACP is no more about blacks achieving equality than NOW is about defending women. These organizations, all of them, have been co-opted by opportunists, ideologues and social revolutionaries. You see, every legitimate problem in society becomes a cause that gains support, and the cause grows into an institution. These institutions have some success, do some good, and then opportunists seize control of the institution and turn it into a racket. This is what you’ve seen in the big Unions, including the UMW my father belonged to. And it’s what you’re looking at in today’s NAACP–– Government approved (and funded) racketeering. Allied to them are the Race Hustlers who have made lucrative careers of using race to shake down institutions––making them offers they can’t refuse. For the good of blacks in America the NAACP is not only of no good—it is harmful. But, it is not useless. It’s still a cash cow for the hi-jackers, Jacobin revolutionaries, and collectivist ideologues who have seized control and use it to increase their personal power and their real favorite color in their bank accounts: green.

          • KrlyQ
            July 16, 2010 | 8:57 am

It’s not racist, Stephen. But those who are losing this battle (because Liberal/Progressive policies don’t work) need to muddle the issue by injecting race! Every president throughout history has had photos and pictures altered in protest. Some of us may find it offensive, but it isn’t racist! We don’t even have to go back too far in history to find examples. Bush’s picture was always altered with Hitler mustaches, Marxist symbols, devils horns and the Joker. But now all of a sudden, when it is done to this president they cry race!
I will tell you who the real racists are; those who claim that this activity is racist. Why, you may ask? Because if most people can accept it happening to any and all other previous presidents, but cry about it now because we have a black president, is fostering the belief that we must “handle” black people and black presidents differently than we do white people and white presidents. They believe that black people cannot deal with the same kinds of responsibility and/or criticisms as white people so we have to have a different set of rules for them. That’s insulting!!

NAACP crap does not bother me. However when race-baiting becomes an official White House policy – it is alarming. Let’s remember that President Obama officially invited the young, the women, the blacks and the Latinos in his coalition of power. President Obama left the rest of the governed uninvited.
    This is institutional race-baiting.
Add the “going for ice-cream scare”, “acted stupidly”, bashing Arizona without even reading the bill – you have a pattern of race-baiting in the White House. NAACP is so much below the level of the POTUS.

As I understand it the name TEA in Tea Party means “taxed enough already”. Nothing hateful or racist about that. Where are the examples of the Tea Party bigotry? Has the NAACP posted examples on their website? Has any other group posted examples of the so called bigots in action?
America is waiting, still no proof.

And it gets even better. This is recent release by the NAACP.

NAACP: Arresting Blacks for using drugs is a violation of their civil rights?

The NAACP can’t figure out why there is a disproportionate number of Blacks and Latinos in prison as compared to Whites. The only conclusion they could come up with is their civil rights were violated?

Out of thousands in prison… Every one of them had their civil rights violated?

That’s a little hard to swallow.

Look for the ACLU to jump in with the NAACP. The next time Marcus Jones gets arrested for car jacking the argument will be…. This is a violation of his civil rights… he’s done this his whole life…it’s all he knows how to do.

    http://cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2010/07/09/tsr.snow.naacp.marijuana.flap.cnn

At the start of the 1990s, the U.S. had more Black men (between the ages of 20 and 29) under the control of the nation’s criminal justice system than the total number in college.

Maybe it’s time to look at the facts and take responsibility for one’s own actions.

7 out of 10 Black women have a child out of wedlock. Somehow the ACLU and the NAACP will try to convince you it’s the White man’s fault.

You know…Their civil rights were violated.

About equal justice? Are you saying that white offenders, for the same crime are given the same sentences as the blacks; in our country? If so, you are bonkers!

America is a real racist country and needs the NAACP so one day maybe a black person could be president of the United States. Oh, that’s already happened? Maybe these folks should find another line of work.

    G’day Bernie,

Good to hear you. What I would really like the NAACP to address is how the democratic policies of entitlements has rendered many “colored people” AND whites enslaved to a future of poverty, hopelessness and well, enslavery (to the government). Same, incidentally, is true of the social security entitlements. Sure–I’d like to get the money I paid in with interest back but understanding the noose that is ever present w government dependence–I’d rather work until I drop dead, happily.

The NAACP will just call you a racist and a bigot Bernie, case closed. The real and ongoing problems like out wedlock children, drug abuse, violence endemic and epidemic in the American Black Community the NAACP will blame on White racism and bigotry, case closed.
Of course this failure by the Black Community and the NAACP to take responsibility for itself will do nothing to improve the conditions of Afro Americans but that has not mattered to most Liberal or Black organizations for some time now, all that matters to them is their high salaries and prominent positions.

How many times have you heard low-income people are being discriminated against because they don’t have the ‘things’ that most Americans have? How many federal ‘perks’ do these low-income people receive (welfare, Medicaid, daycare, food stamps, rent assistance, free cell phones, etc.)? How many times do you see new/renovated housing created in the low-income sections of cities? And, how many times do you see those new/renovated low-income buildings completely destroyed by those low-income tenants? I say, “You can’t polish a turd”.

The NAACP, now, is the single most useless organization in the United States of America. Every single one of the chatter boxes should look themselves in the mirror and repeat all of the regurgitated propoganda they spew. The very name itself implies segregation. I would really love it if someone could show me the racist comments that the TEA Part Patriots have either said or endorsed. I keep hearing alot of chatter from the left about racism, misinformation and lies, but I never hear any examples that amount to anything. Let it be known that I am not affiliated with the TEA Party Patriots and I actually find some of their own propoganda to be annoying.
