"The good news for fans of law and order is that the remaining candidates don’t have much of a criminal record."
I was depressed reading through this until I saw this line. Thanks, John, for restoring "some" faith in our candidates. The expectation that they should not be criminals seems to be a character trait lost to many Americans. Great article!! Now I have to take back all the bad things I said about you! Of course, I'm sure that reflection goes both ways. LOL.
John, you have done some real time consuming research on this and I've learned a thing or two. You've correctly showed how " you can't make this up" drama.
Absolutely! The reason the US has such a dysfunctional government is because low-IQ dotards keep voting candidates like these into office.
Meanwhile, Trump keeps punching America and the rest of the world in the face, then begs allies to help him out and clean up the mess he started. A war of choice, not backed by allies, the UN Security Council, Congress or the American people.
Because there's no one in the GOP willing to stand up to Trump's dictatorial AND ILLEGAL actions, he'll keep doing what he's doing.
That's a direct result of the entire spineless GOP capitulating to every whim Mango Mussolini thinks up.
"Voting has consequences" - somebody famous said that.
When can you expect me to stop criticizing feckless GOP members of Congress, runaway debt spending, and the self-defeating trade war?
When those things start to change.
>>What is the one name you would vote for --in a theoretic election--if Trump were to go away?
I'd vote for lots of Republicans in a theoretical election, including several who've given up way more of themselves for Trump than they ever should have (like Haley, DeSantis, Rubio, etc).
I'd prefer someone who kept their principles and dignity, but almost all have been chased out of politics.
You did mention a name I'd vote for, Rubio but I got the non-answer I was trying to get you to avoid.
How about this: Our Republic needs two strong parties--if it's to continue as a Republic--to exist. I've told you many times I don't disagree with most of what you write. But Trump will eventually go away or his influence is will be neutered by society, world opinion, our Supreme Court or Congress and not much else.
I would support the return of a Joe Mansion-like level Democratic party. Doing so would force the Republican party to return the conservative level you've mentioned that it should be. Pragmatism being a key provision throughout both.
Of the Trump voters I know by the way, none are stuck on stupid. If a Trump/Biden or Biden like election was tomorrow Trump would win. A Trump/Rubio election, Rubio wins.
>>You did mention a name I'd vote for, Rubio but I got the non-answer I was trying to get you to avoid.
Not sure what you mean. But are you saying that you would NOT vote for Haley or DeSantis? If so, I'm curious why not.
>>But Trump will eventually go away or his influence is will be neutered by society, world opinion, our Supreme Court or Congress and not much else.
This should have happened after he lost the 2020 election, tried to overturn U.S. democracy to stay in power, and caused a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. It didn't happen because a cowardly GOP Congress rescued Trump, and parroted or tolerated his B.S. about the election being stolen, which effectively guaranteed he would remain the leader of their party for at least the next 8 years. And at this point, I'm not convinced it will end when he leaves office in January 2029. Unless Trump suffers some major health episode, he'll sadly remain a decisive force in GOP and U.S. politics.
When Obama was president, Republicans were united in their understanding that our national debt was our country's biggest long-term threat. Republicans had a real opportunity to effectively address the issue (the Dems were never going to) when the GOP held everything after the 2016 election. Trump prevented it from happening, and he's STILL preventing it from happening (a decade later!) Our national debt has doubled since then, our entitlement programs are spiraling toward insolvency, and an economic catastrophe is basically an inevitability at this point.
So the assurance that Trump and his influence will "eventually" go away offers no assurances at all. Other Republicans could have stood up to Trump's worst inclinations at any time over the past decade, but the party decided it needed to instead kneel before him, rid its ranks of anyone who dared challenge him, and hope for the best. And Republican voters have largely been complicit with all of it.

Conservatives can't rely on the Democratic Party to restore conservatism within the Republican Party.
I'm very sorry to hear that, Conrad. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
What happened, of course, has nothing to do with anything I've written, but your words assuredly came from a place of pain... which I'll again offer my condolences on.

Thank you all
Same song different verse. Was hoping for something more useful.
Same with your response.
Two questions When can we expect something new? What is the one name you would vote for --in a theoretic election--if Trump were to go away?

Rubio first choice.
--Trump going away.....what you suggest should have happened, did not.
--National debt: Terrible and getting worse. Can't blame it all on one party. That neither cares enough to do something about it is obvious.
--Trump going away....end result the same.
--Mansion type dem party....to win elections Rep will be forced to comply. The voting public will teach them that.
Translation: Stop making fun of MAGA and Trump. It makes me feel yucky.
John DALY, you seem very jolly today. Other people‘s bad day makes you jolly.
As is often the case, Conrad, I'm unclear what you're talking about.
Who's having a bad day? And whose bad day am I supposedly celebrating?
My niece died today
I'm very sorry to hear that, Conrad. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
What happened, of course, has nothing to do with anything I've written, but your words assuredly came from a place of pain... which I'll again offer my condolences on.
My sincere condolences, Conrad.
My thoughts and heart go out to you Conrad. Prayers of comfort to you from me.💛
Thank you for your love
Conrad, no words will change things, but remembering to smile because someone lived has helped me in the past. Hope it will help you as well. al
You have my deepest sympathy.
