It's a sad state of affairs when we have to call the hiring of a straight-laced political commentator an Ideological Diversity Hire.
I recall the day I quit watching the evening news. It was with Lester Holt who I really liked. It was shortly after the Biden inauguration and Lester went to his diverse white female reporter in the field. To paraphrase, "I'm standing in front of the immigration center where President Trump held children in cages". Have no recollection what the rest of her reporting was about. Since then, I only read the news never watch it including cable news.
