In my opinion, socialism won't take hold in America to the extent the so called "Democratic Socialists" want as long as elections are fair. However, Democrats everywhere are doing all they can through lying, cheating, and changing election laws in order to rob elections away in their favor. Remember, there isn't ONE Democrat who opposes the SAVE act. Why would that be? Because the socialists hold all of the millions of dollars of Soros and Singham campaign funds. With no moral center, most Democrats seem to be pulled by the yoke of money. The only other tug is their hatred for Donald Trump; if he’s for it they have to be against it no matter how much common sense they have to dismiss.
Reagan was thought to be unelectable. Trump as well.
As much as I find these folks to be wrong on almost every issue, I would not confidently say DSA has no chance to spread like wildfire.
We should understand that when things do not go well under Democrats and Republicans, growing numbers of voters look to politicians we thought were unelectable.
I believe you have overlooked the role education has played in the socialist movement. We have state representatives in MN that achieved their law degree in social justice and DEI studies. As Jordan Peterson has stated and I paraphrase, Liberal arts in state universities and many private institutions have been won over by socialist principles.
Sweden was bankrupt in the early 70's due to their socialist model. They adopted free market strategies and came out of it. They are still a welfare state with high taxes burdened by the middle class, but they privatized much of their social programs.
One more note; how many of these socialized cry-babies coming out of colleges, and in many cases worthless degrees, would purchase the small cracker box home the six of our family grew up in? Two of the highest inflationary areas are education and healthcare. And guess who controls it? Government.
Ane one more issue. Trump won because he ran against two of the most incompetent candidates. I didn't vote for Trump the first time and held my nose when I voted for him the last time.

I don’t disagree but I would also say republicans bend over backwards to agree with everything Donald Trump purports to believe
These Democratic Socialists, who want open borders, no jails and no police. They scare the crap out of me !

Politicians of all stripes thrive on greed and envy!
